God create me.......for what?

I was going through an old membership seminar booklet for a church (that I will leave anonymous) and it had the fill the blank

"God created me because he ____ me"

My first reaction was the sentence is phrased wrong, my correction

"God created me so that I could ____ him" (glorify or worship)

This booklet, however, referenced some scripture that reads about God's love for us and the conclusion was

"God created me because he loved me"

Is this as big as an error as I think it is? Would I be right to examine the Westminster Long Catechism?

I think your right. Its clear there are some who are "Vessels of wrath". I think it was R. C. Sproul who Coined the Jericho March "walk in a circle and repeat GOD LOVES EVERYBODY". The concept of an "Omnibenevolent" God is the creation of Modern Arminianism, and is certainly not reconcilable with scripture.

Assuming we're speaking of elect believers...

For some questions, there are not just "right" and "wrong" answers. There are also "good," "better" and "best" answers. To fill in that space in a way that affirms God has loved believers since before he created them is a good answer that can be supported from Scripture. It may not be the best answer, though. It's hard to beat the Westminster answer (to glorify him) which you refer to.

I suspect there may be a "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life" mindset (ala the Four Spiritual Laws) behind the thinking that produced that answer. If that's the case, it has some rather serious flaws. But just to affirm God's eternal love for his children is not a bad error, even if it might not be the absolute best answer.

Wynter said it was from a booklet for a church membership seminar. That suggests it is for confessing believers. Sure, some of them might not actually be true believers, but where people give a credible profession of faith in Christ it's good and necessary to presume that God loves them and to tell them so. The alternative only works against assurance in believers and ends up snuffing out the joy and confidence that ought accompany faith in Christ.

Since God's reason for creating anything was for the purpose of His glory this statement is inaccurate no matter who it is addressed to.

Maybe it would be better if it said "God created me because He love His Son (i.e. Christ)."
