Q6. How many persons are there in the Godhead?
A. There are three persons in the Godhead; the Father; the Son: and the Holy Ghost: and these three are One God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory.
Matthew 28:19, I John 5:7

We serve a triune God. He is One God in three Persons who are equal. The doctrine of the trinity is very important. To be a Christian one must affirm the teaching of Scripture, that the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are divine in nature and equal. Jesus, the Son was with God, the Father in creation. This is taught in Genesis 1:26, “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

The divine mystery of the Trinity is such a doctrine that cannot be fully understood by mortal mankind. We are not commanded to fully understand the truth of the Trinity, we are however taught to believe by faith. There are many examples in the Gospels and throughout the Bible of the divine Godhead working in harmony. For example, when Christ was baptised God, the Father spoke, and the Holy Ghost descended upon Christ, the Son like a dove.

The Persons of the Trinity are not independent, nor do they act separately from each other, they are united. The Holy Ghost who dwells in believers is God Himself, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is God Himself and the Father Almighty is indeed God. Without the glorious Godhead forgiveness of sin, salvation from sin and the battle against sin would not be possible. The Prince of Preachers Charles H. Spurgeon once said, “It needs the Trinity to make a Christian, it needs the Trinity to cheer a Christian, it needs the Trinity to complete a Christian, it needs the Trinity to create in a Christian the hope of glory.” Today, may we as God's people worship Him in glorious praise. May we pray to God, the Father, in the name of Jesus, the Son by the power of the Holy Ghost. 1 John 5:8 says, “For there are three that bear witness, the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.”
