MacLaurin Institute Fellow Dr. Vishal Mangalwadi began a free 10-part lecture series on Must the Sun Set on the West: An Indian Explores the Soul of Western Civilization several weeks ago. The series takes place every Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. and runs through Tuesday, November 20. Next week’s lecture (October 30) is titled Ancient Levees and the Coming Katrina: Economic consequences if a postmoral West becomes more corrupt than the contemporary non-West and will be held in Moos Tower, 2-520.

3. Please join us on Friday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. as Udo Middelmann (Francis Schaeffer Fellow, MacLaurin Institute) will discuss his new book, The Innocence of God, offering a “third way” between Calvinism and Arminianism. This event will be the official book release celebration for his new book. The lecture is in Nolte Center, Room 140 (315 Pillsbury Drive SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455).

4. Dr. Stanley Hauerwas, Gilbert T. Rowe Professor of Theological Ethics at Duke Divinity School, will give the Twelfth Annual Holmer Memorial Lecture on Thursday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. in Willey Hall, Room 175 (225 19th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55455). His lecture is titled Theological Knowledge and the Knowledges of the University. The lecture will explore what difference theology might make for the construction of knowledges that should be taught in the university. As part of this project Dr. Hauerwas challenges some of the liberal conceits that shape many current university curriculums.

5.
