Hey, I live outside of Houston and I recommended Austin until I realized he had family in Houston.

I stand corrected. My apologies my good man.
If you're going into computing, have you considered the University of Texas at Dallas?
Don't choose Houston because it is close to Galveston. The island is nice, but the beaches are horrible (unless you like swimming in brown water).

I'd second the suggestion that you look at UTD for computers. While UT Austin is one of the top universities in the country, and Rice is an outstanding institution, in your field, UTD should be on the list.
There is a strong Asian community just east of of UTD in the Richardson/Plano corridor (the campus in in Richardson, not Dallas), with most of the young single professionals congregating in the uptown area of Dallas.
Of the 3, Dallas has the best public transportation network (although far below international standards), Austin is fair, and Houston lags far behind. In the Church arena, Houston and Dallas will have many reformed choices; Austin lags in that area, although there are now some acceptable options.
Austin clearly leads in music and nightlife. Houston is an hour or so from the beach at Galveston. All are hot in the summer. Dallas gets a little ice and snow, but not enough to worry about. Houston gets a tropical storm every few years.
this is a very fair and accurate assessment in my opinion.

I can't imagine picking Houston on account of Galvaston. If you want water then go to Austin. But, I think Houston is a better choice because of Rice and family. Rice might be one of the be schools in the south.

If you want beach, then Padre Island is where you go. What water is in Austin?

So does Houston.
