Idea: Build-a-bible

I am sure you have heard of "Build-a-bear" before or even seen one.

So this idea came to me tonight. As i was reading for church service this evening i grabbed my 1689 confession to put in my bible for an alternative of something to read tonight. I usually get to church in advance to secure my spot (the same one for over a year)

Then i started thinking... with all the different versions out there.... why isnt there a build-a-bible?

You could choose:

-what maps (if any) to insert
-what translation the text is in (even different ones side by side)
-an option to include a dictionary/concordance/etc
-to add a confession in the back
-wide margins or not

things of that nature. How great would that be to have your own custom bible?

You may be onto something here. But it would probably work best as a website as opposed to a store front operation. Let me know when you have all the details worked out.

Oh, no! You're one of the THEM! I get a kick out of the folks who mark their territory in the sanctuary. They rush in to place their bible, purse, coat, hat etc. where they are going to sit. I love it when someone unexpected comes in earlier than them and sits in their place. They come in and just stare at "their" seat! They don't know what to do. They walk around, mutter a few words and then take a seat someplace else, but you can tell they are steamed and feeling like a fish out of water. I have to admit I find it hilarious.

I think the idea of "build your own bible" is cool (I love studying binding, leathers, formats, etc) but I doubt it will happen. It would be just too expensive. I have had old bibles rebound in nice leather adding new ribbons and pages for notes and that alone is atleast a $100 per bible. Not taking into fact the process of type setting and printing the pages. I read on the ESV blog that for Crossway to design, proof, and print a new format (i.e. double column to single column) costs around $50,000.

It would definetly be a special niche that unless someone had an efficient way of doing it would be expensive in my opinion.

Basically i have a couple of different translations that i acquired throughout the years. Sometimes i might use the NASB along side the ESV while i am reading for a word study or something of that nature. So i definately think that would be useful.
