Inductive Bible Studies

How do you all study the Bible, as in your day-to-day method? It seems that the Inductive Bible Study method taught be Campus Crusade is the most popular. What did Christians do before they owned their own Bibles? What do Christians do if they don't want to draw multi-colored circles and underlines in their Bibles? How did the Church fathers read Scripture.

You become a Christian and everyone says "read your Bible" but no one says how. Now that I'm faced with teaching new believers I have seen how immersed in the Kay Arthur inductive method I have been.

I was taught the InterVarsity method, also inductive but does not require felt pens & highlighters. Ask yourself the following; To Whom was this written, by whom, who are the characters, what do they do/say, what is it saying to us? Real basic, but a good beginning for the youngsters, I still use it when I get stumped.
