If you consult A. Barnes he presents the various opinions. He favours a mixture of
a child born to Isaiah, but the complete fulfilment in the Christ child to come.

I agree with the view Cymro gave. There can be an immediate fulfillment, then a longer range fulfillment in Christ. There can also be an additional fulfillment in the church .

An example is the alter Jeroboam made. The prophet spoke against it. There was an immediate result and a long range fulfillment. The alter immediately split in half and three hundred years later was destroyed again.

How many children have been born of a virgin? Only one. Moreover, any attempt to modify the word "virgin" only serves to discredit the miracle and the fulfilment of prophecy to which the Gospel of Matthew attests.

Is the child in v16 referring to another child? Isaiah's child?

Yes. Matthew Poole comments, "The child, Heb. this child; not the virgin’s Son, but the prophet’s child, Shear-jashub, whom in all probability the prophet, to prevent mistakes, pointed at, and who was brought hither by God’s special command, Isaiah 7:3, and that for this very use; for otherwise his presence was wholly insignificant."

There are often immediate fulfillment and future more glorious fulfillment
Solomon taking the throne and reigning in peace being one example, Jesus far eclipsing that

But that is a Type and the Antitype must perfect it. In the fulfilment of a Prophecy there is a one to one correlation. There cannot be multiple fulfilments without creating multiple ends to the prophecy and thereby nullifying the distincitve end of salvation history. The specific prophecy relating to a virgin only knows of one fulfilment.
