It must be time to prune the forums again...

Dan....

Puritan Board Sophomore
This is post number 500 next to my name.

Actually, this is about the 4th or 5th time that I have reached 500. Each time I do, soon thereafter, the administrators decide that there are too many posts (or at least too many posts and threads like this one that say nothing really important  ) on the board and start pruning!!

I always wondered why I could never seem to break the sound barrier (761). :chained:

Maybe it's 1984 striking me again and again.

I know how you feel... though it hasn't happened to me 4 or 5 times. (Just once... but they took away almost half my posts! Actually... hmmm... now that I think about it, they took away the majority of the posts I made while I was a Baptist! Hmmm....)

I'm gonna suggest to Fred that he remove the post totals altogether from the template. I don't see the need; it is distracting.

Please don't remove the post totals! Its one of the few areas in my life right now where I can feel any sense of accomplishment!

(yes, I know, very sad....)

If you look on the member list, you will see that the oldest registration date is Sep 2002. Actually the board is older than that. The original board crashed and burned and was replaced in Sep 2002. At that time I had just reached about 100 (Some members had maybe up to 500ish??). We all had to start over on the new board with 0.

And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest (Luke 22:24).

and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, "You sit here in a good place," and you say to the poor man, "You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool" (James 2:3)

I second the motion to eliminate post counts all together. They tend to create needless positions of status in the community.

(and yes I would say the same on the boads in which I have thousands of posts)

:)

I love the post counts! I think they are a lot of fun. And I think a lot of other people on here think the post counts are fun, too.

If you don't like the post counts, then just ignore them. But don't take them away from those of us who like them.

I would agree yeah.

I think the posts counts are just a bit of harmless fun and if some people enjoy them, why not?

Whilst many, myself included, might be guilty of a fivorlous post here and there to up the count, I don't think the problem of people spamming useless posts is a big problem on this particular board, nor is there really a need that every post be worthy of publication, so to speak.

Likewise, i don't think the counts really create different 'classes' of posters. I think for the most part posts are judged by their content and not by the posters 'seniority'.

Well, its not a big deal just my :2cents:
