How do we understand John 3:18 in light of original sin / original guilt ? Non Calvinist will object to the federal headship of Adam by saying it is our unbelief that starts our condemnation.

We can have condemnation from our inherent sin and also in rejection of the gospel.
The force of this verse as Leon Morris says: "But anyone who does not believe (persistence in unbelief is meant) does not have to wait until Judgment Day. That person is condemned already."
