How about Daniel 4:35?

"All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand or say to Him, 'What have You done?'"

As to the second statement, well, I could only hope that we are all accused of that some day.

Thank you, Rev. Kok. Believe me, we aren't puzzled by any of this...it's almost humorous what this person says, if it weren't also saddening.

Where did you read this?

I've heard this preached many times. It's an Arminian cliche, but has absolutely no basis in Scripture.

How about replying "You are quite right that God doesn't will never go against man's free will to save him! For instead of leaving all to perish due their hearts being in bondage to sin, he frees the hearts of those he chooses to free from their bondage. And those he frees from sin, freely choose to follow him."

Note to nitpickers: I am (of course) presuming that those God regenerates a) do have a real choice presented to them whether or not to follow God after regeneration and
b) those who choose not to follow (backsliders) will be opposed by the Holy Spirit until they make a better choice which they will inevitably, sooner or later, do.

These are things my hubby gets to hear from a certain relative. He just lets the person babble on...it's proven worthless to try and hold a conversation. (The last comment being the product of trying to have a discussion)

I think it comes from the crowd that is afraid to "think to much" (something I'm usually accused of). And yes, I've heard that before, Dena, along with "if you just keep praying" and so on and so forth (someone plug the dam).

And that crowd usually cautions against too much learning because, you know, "Knowledge puffeth up".
