Reposting from a pervious thread.

My name is Darion Patterson. I'm 33 years old and have been in pastoral ministry for 12 years and most recently have served as an assistant pastor at my most recent church which was traditional baptist. In light of my coming to presbyterian convictions over the past year, I've currently been looking into youth director , pastoral internships, assistant/associate pastor roles. My desire is to be ordained and become a TE with a call to a church. I'm still enrolled at my baptist seminary and also desire to transfer to a reformed seminary. I am a father of three as well and they are excited about the change. Could anyone point me to any PCA/OPC churches that are looking to take someone on as myself and invest? Thank you in advance.

Hi Darion, I posted this question on your other recent post as well, but thought I'd post it here too in case you missed it.

In one of your past posts "Nephew might be going Reformed", you mention having a nephew that
over the past 6 months he's been leaning towards more presbyterian distinctive namely the sacraments and more confessional. He started going to a PCA church about a month ago after he notified his pastor of his convictions. He's met with the lead pastor at this new church and he's taking proper steps to becoming a member and coming under care. even looking to transfer his seminary studies to RTS so that he may be ordained as a TE.

This sounded incredibly similar to your own situation. Do you have a nephew in the same situation as yourself, or was that post about you and put in third person for anonymity? Mainly asking for the sake of transparency and respect of the 9th commandment since it confused me.

Thanks!

Do the PCA/OPC not require men to be under care in the denomination before bringing them on as pastoral interns?

Not for employee positions like assistant, youth director; but for associate or senior pastor they will. Based on my minimal understanding.

Yes, to clear up confusion I have a nephew in

I apologize for the confusion, yes I'm new to the forum and was still unsure at the time of my transition concerning ordination process. Third person for anonymity sake. Thank you for asking.

Thanks for acknowledging that it was about you man. I can understand wanting to be anonymous, but we have to remember that fabricating stories (even if mostly true) is sinful as it goes against the 9th commandment. Deceit is not the best way to start off seeking others to help in your desire for pastoral ministry in a new denomination either. It makes it harder for brothers and sisters to really give the best counsel they can when they don't have accurate details. Plus on PB, even though it's on the internet and many of us are strangers in some sense, we aren't stangers in the purest sense of the word. We get to know one another, we get to pray for one another, and (as the Lord wills) some of us may even get to meet one another in person! All that is to say, there's no need to worry about sharing true things about yourself and letting people actually get to know you. Usernames and signatures are there if relative online anonymity is a concern.

That's at least my :2cents: . There are a lot of folks here that should be able to point you in the right direction with your situation and I'm sure you've already heard from a few of them!

I appreciate your response. First I'd like to say your persistence in wanting to know the matter leads me to believe you weren't genuine in your approach. If you truly wanted to correct what you perceived to be sin, you would have dm'd me. But rather you commented on two of my threads inquiring. Secondly, anonymity is not a breaking of the 9th commandment nor is it sinful. You are completely unaware of my reasoning for disclosing my identity originally nor did you in humility try to know why. The apostle Paul uses anonymity when speaking of "A man I knew in Christ" (2 Corinthians 12:2). You were too eager to assume deceit which in actuality places you in violation of the ninth commandment.

In conclusion, if you do not have any resources or contributions to my thread's prompt, respectfully please don't comment on this thread. If you'd like to get to know me more, my dm is always open to you dear friend. Blessings

My persistence in wanting to know that matter is no lack of genuineness in my approach. I was genuinely confused at the similarities in your posts, so I asked about it.

I commented in public since your posts themselves were in public and the public could see them. The public saw your first post and assumed it was the truth when you said it was about your nephew. It is no surprise if something said publicly receives a response that is public. You also decided to respond to my initial question publicly.

Secondly, anonymity is not a breaking of the 9th commandment nor is it sinful. You are completely unaware of my reasoning for disclosing my identity originally nor did you in humility try to know why.
Anonymity itself is not sinful. That is an accurate statement. But making false claims such as “this is about my nephew” goes beyond anonymity. You could have just asked a general question without the false scenario and fake conversation:

“We've talked and I tried to steer clear of coming in between a man and his convictions.”

I am unaware of your reasons for disclosing your identity in your post, nor do I assume any. Reasons don’t really play a part in my thinking of it. I just asked if you did since It was confusing reading your post, and you said you did.

The apostle Paul uses anonymity when speaking of "A man I knew in Christ" (2 Corinthians 12:2)
I don't think that usage of Paul fits. He’s vague in his usage of “I knew a man” where the reader can tell he’s talking about himself. On the other hand, you were specific in your usage of “my nephew” to the point of readers thinking it was genuinely about your nephew.

You were too eager to assume deceit which in actuality places you in violation of the ninth commandment.
I don't think I was eager to assume deceit. There were inconsistencies in what you said that genuinely confused me. I asked about them, and you acknowledged that your post about "your nephew" was in fact about yourself. I think intentionally saying things that aren't factually true is decietful. Others can let me know if they think I'm off base here.

Understood. I thought I'd respond to your comments first, but I'll dip out of this conversation for now though so as to get back on topic to to OP.

You weren't simply being anonymous - you lied and made up a story about a nephew. It was an odd thing to do and now you're being overly defensive about it.

Brothers, post 11 is confusing because it has too many quotes. Nevertheless it does say there really is a nephew. You men are the ones looking like headhunters right now.

Sure, and by your same standard so did Paul. I extend the same offer to you though, would you like to know why anonymity is needed in my case?

Brethren, may I humbly suggest taking the 9th Commandment conversation privately?

1. Paul’s use of the 3rd person was humility/modesty (vs “glorying”), not anonymity.

2. A brother’s every sin (even semi-public) does not have to be sniffed out publicly, or “exposed” publicly immediately.

As of right now, things will probably just be a public display to no one’s edification. I’m not an official moderator, but I do think this could better be handled “offline,” as it were. Just my two cents, and I’ll hush.
