Do any of you know of good online resources on the ascension? I'm not interested in the contra-liberalism approach to the matter. I'm looking for theological significance of the ascension, per se. I realize that the resurrection, ascension and Pentecost are a tightly knit complex of events, but I'm really looking for a treatment of the ascension itself from a theological perspective. I'm looking for the "So what".

Thanks in advance.

Clark, Thomas Goodwin wrote quite a bit worth reading concerning this. I will attempt to track down the requisite sections in on-line editions for you (unless someone already has links, hint hint).

Leo the Great's sermons on the ascension (sermons 73 & 74 in NPNF v. 12) are beautiful and joyful treatments of this great event.

Here are some appropriate Goodwin works:

1.) Sermons on Ephesians, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. I didn't have time to check which specific sermons address it, so I would just open your Bible and see which verses Eph. 1:1-2:11 deal with the ascension, and quickly skim the appropriate sermons.

2.) This volume contains some very choice works, most notable Christ Set Forth, which contains a section on the ascension.

3.) Finally, I don't recall that Christ the Mediator deals specifically with the ascension, but along these lines I couldn't resist posting the link to it, as well. Check the table of contents, just in case there actually is a section devoted to the ascension which I have forgotten.
