Ministers/Elders List

Would it be possible for the PB to compile a list of every minister/elder (with links to their profiles) sorted by denomination and put a link to this list at the top of the PB? Perhaps a tab in the same list as: New Posts, Private Messages, FAQ, Calendar, Etc.

Perhaps this way it would be good for some to be able to search.

Also an option maybe to private message every minister/elder in a particular denomination. Like if you were in the OPC, you could be able to hit a link and be able to pm every OPC elder on the PB.

Just a thought. What do you think?

That sounds like it could involve the ministers/elders in more work than some of them are able to invest in this venue.

I would not think this would be helpful. I do not want to be inundated by PMs from (potentially) dozens of people whom I do not even know.

Andrew,

Most Pastors and Elders have way to much to do already. A list would only lead those outside of their congregations to seek the Pastors and Elders of the list out. I see no problem with Church listings. To list Pastors and Elders puts an undo burden that they do not need in most cases. I know you are a Pastor Andrew. I have seen the work of Pastors and Elders for 30 years now. Local Church listings should be sufficient. Even the Pastors on this forum don't have time for helping me out when I ask sometimes. They have too much to do and too much weight to carry from their own flocks. This goes for RE's also.

My humble opinion -

I'm going to shoot straight even though it sounds bad...

I give plenty of top quality advice, for free, on the PB already. I'm too busy to become a surrogate pastor for some disaffected Christian who doesn't want to go to their real pastor.
Just sayin'...

I got it, and that makes perfect sense.

BUT what about a list just for elders to network, ask for good advice, etc.?

Isn't there already an Elders only forum?

I agree with Ben... he does give top quaality advice!:D

Thank you. Reading my advice is sort of like reading poetry isn't it? :p

In reading this, and trying to form a reasonable understanding of this post, I read "In my humble opinion" and then follow that with "even thought it sounds bad" and then with "I give plenty of top quality advice, for free, on the PB already" and then with "I'm too busy to become a surrogate pastor for some disaffected Christian who doesn't want to go to their real pastor."

I stumble.

I agree in principle of what is being said, but personally, I have a hard time seeing anything humble about this, as it seems riddled with the opposite.

I am by no means an example in humility, but I am aware of our Lord and as he was, humiliated and serving us to and through his death.

And I say this honestly, thank you, SolaScriptura, and all the Elders for serving and ministering on this board, for it has ministered and pointed me to Christ time and time again. I appreciate the time and serving hearts!

Absolutely! "One fish, two fish. Red fish, blue fish..."

:D

Now that is my kind of poetry, although I've always been particularly fond of "Roses are red...".

Ben is sharp in more than one way. But something that is not being understood is that some of this is in gest. He is trying to be funny and serious at the same time. For a big JERK he does pull it off well sometimes and he does have his good moments. In my humble opinion LOL :D:lol:

I said that in love (btw) and I loved saying it. LOL

Even though it wouldn't be a comprehensive list, one could go to the member search page - http://www.puritanboard.com/memberlist.php?do=search - and search based on church office held.

The Elders-Only and Pastoral Concerns forums are both good ways for folks (whether our fellow elders or the board at large) to get in touch with us, solicit prayer or counsel, etc.

I can accept that the post by SolaScriptura was intended to be in good fun/serious, at least by your account and a slight in good fun/serious admission by the writer.

I know it is not intended, but jokingly dismissing it as someone being a big JERK sometimes, doesn't seem to be that funny either, even if to lighten things up. In my humble opinion.

I just keep thinking about who we represent. It may be that I am making too much of it, but I ask you to read the post again, even if somewhat unintended, it failed horribly at representing anything that is attributed as Christ-like. And I am guilty of this very thing a hundred fold..hence the conviction and the love that I say this in.

will they know us by how we jest with one another? badly at that.

Honestly, I see it all the time, digression seems the natural path, and it brings back the sincerity and truth in the post about how PB comes up in google searches.

It seems easy to digress...even now..maybe its just a consequential outcome born from all the baptism debates...

And I, too, say all this in pursuit of brotherly love.

Ben, how do you really feel? You weren't very clear. Maybe you could illumine me when you arrive in town in two weeks. I'm rather slow on the uptake. After all, I am a Baptist.

Robert -

Brother, I thank you for your desire that we speak plainly and in love and that we be careful to avoid coarse jesting. I'm not sure my post qualifies as coarse jesting- I was being tongue in cheek, but allow me to speak plainly:

I wrote with tongue-in-cheek nature because I didn't - and stil don't - want to hurt feelings and step on toes but at the same time I wanted to make a point, and the point is this: Those of us who are called and ordained to a particular office are called to that particular office. We have obligations and duties to those whom we are called to serve by our ministerial office. No one in the Baptist or Presbyterian tradition is ordained to serve as a "minister at large," to operate a 24-hour pastoral "help-line," so to speak, for the Body of Christ at large. We are busy with our particular callings and their associated duties. We participate in Boards like this for a mixture of reasons, some of it for our edification, some of it for fellowship, some of it to be a blessing to others, some of it to keep up with things, some of it just for the recreational value of it. In the course of our participation in Boards like this we offer pastoral advice and counsel (who here has NOT been blessed by the contributions of many of our ministers?), but the reality is that offering assistance to members of this Board is NOT the purpose of our calling, and we can't make a de facto "help line" without it infringing upon that for which we were ordained. Further, for all the value of this Board, as has been reiterated time and again, the PB is NOT a church and as a result none of the ministers associated with this Board want to set up a situation in which any member is more prone to find their primary source of spiritual nourishment and accountability here instead of in their local congregation any more than they already are by virtue of the impressive quality of this Board.
So for the good of those to whom we are called to minister, for the good of our own already hectic schedules and lives, for the good of the members of the PB, and for the good of the local churches in which members of the PB hold their membership, setting up a list of the resident elders and ministers would be a not so great idea.

I hope that helps...
Ben

Robert,

I all due kindness. I love Ben. People need to lighten up sometimes. Please don't be so easily offended. The world is watching I agree and from my experience they want us to be real without going overboard. I personally don't want to be a stick in the mud worried about not being able to jest with my friends. God made life too good and abundant. We ought to be able to rib each other ever now and again.

Ben and I have met face to face and have a deep appreciation for each other.

If I have sinned against you and you feel I have, just PM me. I don't want to offend you.

Be Encouraged,
Randy
