I Thought i would share with you all move first Lords Day in Sol Cali since moving from the supper hot sunny UK on Tuesday 31st May.

My wife and I were very exciting about going to Church today, unfortunately wife's driving licenses has expired so had to rely on a lift from her sister. I thought for my our first Lords Day we would attend Grace Community Church in the Valley, only 11 miles from where we are living at the moment in San Fernando City. We got to the Church 10 minutes before service started and didn't realize how hard it would be to park, that was a mission in its self. Finally after finding a parking spot we headed for the Church, once in i couldn't believe how big it was (back in the UK we were attending a small Baptist Church with 20 in the morning and only 15 if your lucky in the evening) so for me this was HUGE. In the front was a choir and a small orchestra which i was surprised to see and thought it was a bit too much. During the offertory their was some dude singing a soloist piece, not sure what he was singing thought it too much and not appropriate. Then came the preaching of the word which we were looking forward too. The preaching was very good very edifying and informative Mark 16:1-8. All in all i thought it was ok, we were hoping to attend the evening service unfortunately we couldn't get a lift. I don't feel that this Church will be for us in the long run and be part of the church family but it will be fine for the time being until the Lord leads us to just the right Church for us.

Forgot to mention they have a cool remote control pulpit which goes up and down. Every church has got to themselves one of them

No, but that would be cool. Just imagine that preachers going up and down with the pulpit you'd just hope that it wouldn't get stuck half way up or down.

Apparently you were in attendance on a special day. From a few different tweets I have read, today MacArthur completed preaching through the entire NT.

A tweet from Al Mohler says, "Congratulations to my dear friend John MacArthur, who completed a 30 year project of preaching through the New Testament today. Incredible."

Yes Andres, I'm not sure who he was but someone gave a little speech of gratitude to John MacArther, Then the whole congregation stood up and gave a standing ovation. I think it is an amazing achievement to preach through the entire NT by the grace of God but i didn't think it was appropriate to give him a standing ovation i feel that it was almost boarder line of praising mans achievement instead of praising The Lord who of course enabled him to achieve such a task. I think it would of been more appropriate, yes to give the speech then after a prayer of thanksgiving without the standing ovation but that is just my opinion.

Daniel, from what you have described in your posts, I agree with you. Sounds like too much extra stuff in the service for my preference.

A little premature - he still has Mark 16.9-20 to get through. I guess they were acknowledging the textual problem at the end of Mark's gospel. I've noticed that he's been preaching through Mark's gospel in both the AM and PM services - wants to get it done, I guess!

We visited the rpcla about 2 years ago when we visited my wife's family for christmas, I've still got your church on my list of churches which I'm praying about. Once we sort our transport out we God willing give another visit . I would like to visit Trinity Reformed Baptist Church in La Mirada but it a little too far for us at the moment.
