One mind; unification

How should the Christian interpret these exhortations?

Rom 15:6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Co 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

Phi 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

Phi 2:2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

1Pe 3:8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:

Is it your feeling that these exhortives are geared toward overall unification or unifying the believers upon central tenets alone?

If we see the whole of truth which is to be understood confined to a circled area, then each one of us would grasp only a wee part of what is inside that circle. And though these small graspings overlap, yet there remains a wide disparity in understandings.

These texts cannot mean that a unified field of knowledge be enforced upon all alike, since we all have abilities and gifts which separate the one from the other. But our acknowledgement of the whole as our aim, not knowing the whole, which is impossible, but seeking to be in compliance with the whole, unifies even the most disparate into a common cause. Under the Bible we can be one, even though we may disagree in our sentiments about many things. Unity keeps our subjective persuasions in their place, and carefully keeps a prior place for revealed knowledge, to which all must agree.

I see the disagreement in our day as mostly majoring on minors, and pushing the true majors aside to make place for these minors. That is what is causing far too much division; people making far too much out of things that are nothing more than their own subjective convictions. We're taking our eyes off the main circle, and putting them upon our own little circle, thinking we must defeat all the other little circles. It is true that some of those need to be defeated for they are falsely called knowledge. Not all, though, because we have to remember our own limitations and the gifts granted to others in areas we do not yet understand.

This is, i think, a serious question and one that has caused me some sadness as i have considered it.

I know of many christians who i believe display a true love for Jesus Christ and his word, yet hold on to some ( or in cases many ) false teachings. In some way this is attributable to the generally poor standard of teaching today as well as an over emphasis on unity with any who call themselves christian which In my humble opinion borders on compromise.

I would vote that total unification -even of all elect, regenerated believers in unlikey before glorification. But that surely is a sad thing and a blot on the church of Christ?

edit; BAH...right after i posted this i tried to vote but ended up voting for the wrong option... so -1 from 'possible' and +1 for impossible to those viewing the poll...

I believe it is possible to be doctrinally united this side of heaven. I do not believe that means we must all be denominationally unified.
