Now for a minute, forget what side you personally stand on with regard to illegal immigration. Is this something the church should be doing as the church?

My gut reaction is no, and not just because I am against amnesty.

In my humble opinion the Church should thoroughly educate every member who is able to understand such instruction. Then, if their convictions lead them to get involved with politics on their own, let them do it. The Church should not be funding lobbyists or demanding that their congregation take up a political cause. However, if certain like-minded members chose to take up a cause together, let them do so. Also, pray for them, and counsel them, so that they will be a good example to the watching world, and not bring reproach to the name of Christ.

I'd agree that the Church should not be involved. However I don't like that article too much, it seems to ascribe motives to people which, as far as I can tell, they haven't actually said.
