"Make your life"
My dad, Frank Bushey

Even now, my brothers and I have no idea what this means........My dad is the greatest! Everytime we would ask him what that meant, he would reply, "All I'm saying is, make your life". He'd leave it at that.

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.

"Some worry about an 'aggressive Calvinism' on college

about aggressive indifference in the formation of the intellect among students".

"There is no sin recorded in God's book against His people: they are justified in Christ forever."

A.W.Pink on Charles H.Spurgeon

How many who now speak of him eulogistically, and refer to him as "beloved Spurgeon,"would gnash their teeth and
execrate him were they to hear his faithful and plain-spoken
preaching.

the chapter entitled "Its Justice"

Can't stop myself...another Pink utterance

The doctrine of election is to be prominently preached because the gospel cannot be Scripturally proclaimed without
it...few indeed perceive that there is any vital connection between predestination and the evangel of God.
Any man,who omits the Father's election,and the Spirit's
sovereign and effectual operations, preaches not the gospel of God,no matter what be his reputation as a "soul winner."

Learner, don't even get me started with Pink!

"It has been customary to say God loves the sinner, though He hates his sin. But that is a meaningless distinction. What is there in a sinner but sin?"

"Is it true that God [i:1bd7d4eac4]loves[/i:1bd7d4eac4] the one who is [i:1bd7d4eac4]despising[/i:1bd7d4eac4] and rejecting His blessed Son?"

"The fact is, that the love of God, is a truth for the saints only, and to present it to the enemies of God is to take the children's bread and cast it to the dogs."

From [i:1bd7d4eac4]The Sovereignty of God,[/i:1bd7d4eac4] chapter 11, Difficulties and Objections.

I am tickled pink with Pink

[A preacher]may be assured at the outset ,that unless
many in his congregation are seriously disturbed by his message,he has failed to deliver it in its clarity.

Taken from the intro to "The Doctrine of Man's Impotence"

Pink was no punk(despite what S.Custer of B.J.U. has said)

"It is the view of these men[Arminian evangelists]that God
makes an offer of His saving grace through the gospel message, makes it to the free will of all who hear it,and that they can either accept or refuse it.But that is not grace at all.

Chapter 12 of the Scots Confession (thanks to A Puritan's Mind)

Our faith and its assurance do not proceed from flesh and blood, that is to say, from natural powers within us, but are the inspiration of the Holy Ghost; whom we confess to be God, equal with the Father and with his Son, who sanctifies us, and brings us into all truth by his own working, without whom we should remain forever enemies to God and ignorant of his Son, Christ Jesus. For by nature we are so dead, blind, and perverse, that neither can we feel when we are pricked, see the light when it shines, nor assent to the will of God when it is revealed, unless the Spirit of the Lord Jesus quicken that which is dead, remove the darkness from our minds, and bow our stubborn hearts to the obedience of his blessed will. [b:03cf01ab1a]And so, as we confess that God the Father created us when we were not, as his Son our Lord Jesus redeemed us when we were enemies to him, so also do we confess that the Holy Ghost does sanctify and regenerate us, without respect to any merit proceeding from us, be it before or after our regeneration. To put this even more plainly; as we willingly disclaim any honor and glory from our own creation and redemption, so do we willingly also for our regeneration and sanctification[/b:03cf01ab1a]; for by ourselves we are not capable of thinking one good thought, but he who has begun the work in us alone continues us in it, to the praise and glory of his undeserved grace.

I thought the bolded section was particularly helpful, and an excellent way to present this truth.

"Concerning the character and contents of the gospel, the utmost confusion prevails today. The gospel is not an "offer"
to be bandied around by evangelical peddlers. The Gospel is no mere invitation, but a proclamation concerning Christ;true
whether men believe it or not.No man is asked to believe that Christ died for him in particular. The Gospel ,in brief,is this:Christ died for sinners, you are a sinner, believe in Christ, and you shall be saved. In the Gospel,God simply
announces the terms upon which men may be saved (namely, repentance and faith)and, indiscriminately, all are
commanded to fulfill them".

A.W.Pink in "Objections To God's Sovereignty Answered"

"There is a manifest tendency, however, on the part of modern liberal theology to break with the past. Many of its representatives are often rather loud in their praises of the Creeds of the Church as historical documents, but refuse to acknowledge their doctrinal value for the present. And, sad to say, the so-called Fundamentalists of our day join hands with the liberals on this point with their well-known slogan "No Creed by the Bible." They do not seem to realize that this involves a break with the historical part of the church, and a refusal to profit by the lessons which the Churches of the Reformation passed on as a precious heritage to following in their great Creeds and Confessions, and a virtual denial of the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the past history of the Church."

Louis Berkhof, prolegomenon to his Systematic Theology

Carl Henry:"Twilight Of A Great Civilization"

"No teacher does serious learning any service who implies the finality of contemporary culture and represents its conceptual content as the acme of truth and the criterion of wisdom.Modern culture is the expression of one particular epoch in the much longer chain of human history, and it has no authentic basis for claiming ultimacy for its representations of reality, truth and good."

Fathom this one...

"When the minority of a body become unsound, there is no remedy but excision. When the majority become unsound, there is no remedy but secession. Error desires nothing, demands nothing but toleration. It is sure of ultimate success if let alone. Its advocates, to prevent alarm, maintain that the differences are but slight, perhaps merely verbal, or at most philosophical, and frown at suspicion and inquiry as calculated to disturb the peace of the church... Error is more congenial than truth; the love of it is the normal state, and its power of assimilation in this world is greater than that of truth. The gospel wins its way, and maintains its advantages against the current. Error floats with it, and gains its destination without lifting an oar. Truth in this world is an exotic. Error is indigenous. The former cannot live but by constant protection; the latter thrives without it. Error, therefore, needs nothing but toleration in any communion, for its spread and success. The only successful preventative is excision or secession. To this rule there can be found no exception in the history of the past."

"I know how difficult it is to persuade the world that God disapproves of all modes of worship not expressly sanctioned by his word. The opposite persuasion which cleaves to them, being seated, as it were, in their very bones and marrow, is, that whatever they do has in itself a sufficient sanction, provided it exhibits some kind of zeal for the honor of God. But since God not only regards as fruitless, but also plainly abominates, whatever we undertake from zeal to his worship, if at variance with his command, what do we gain by a contrary course? The words of God are clear and distinct, "Obedience is better than sacrifice." "In vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men," (1 Sam. 15:22; Matt. 15:9). Every addition to his word, especially in this matter, is a lie. Mere "will worship" (ethelothreeskeia) is vanity. This is the decision, and when once the judge has decided, it is no longer time to debate. "

Joseph Irons

"Let me here ask you if you can recognize any real advancement in spirituality during the past week?Have you got further away from the world in affection, desire, and
pursuit?Have you been nearer the throne?Have you enjoyed a closer intimacy with Jesus?Have the drawings of Divine
love more strongly propelled the soul after God?Has the Word been more sweet to your taste?Have the means of grace been more precious to your souls?Has spiritual inter-
course with the followers of the Lamb been more delightful and profitable?I ask, beloved, what advancement are you making? You know it is written,'they shall go from strength to
strength.'Have you gone on increasing your strength from Sunday to Sunday, and from day to day?I do not like---you know I do not like---a stand-still Christianity....Oh that God would so quicken us by the power of His Spirit,...Oh, for advancement in Divine life!"
