I will be uploading a number of miniDV videos to my computer this week, including my wedding and much of my son's early life. The files will be uploaded as very large .avi files (around 13 gb per hour). Obviously, I will want to compress the videos to a more manageable format. What format do you recommend I convert them to? Obviously there are formats like divx, wmv, quicktime, etc. I'd like one that has relatively decent compression and is prevalent enough that I will be able to easily convert it to new formats in the future as compression gets better. I hope to play some of these videos at my sons wedding in 20+ years! Thanks

DivX (and XviD, the open source alternative) are both relatively prominent compression formats and, I think, pretty good for what you'll be using them for.
