Started New Blog

To anyone who may be interested, I've started a new blog that will consist mostly of popularizing my academic pursuits. Expect lots of intellectual history, church history, and book reviews. I'm still working out a lot of issues with the site, such as auto-posting to Facebook and possibly email subscription. I'm neither tech-savvy nor incompetent, so I probably will work things out, but perhaps not quickly.

You need a picture of yourself. It used to be that all people cared about was the product of your intellect. But thanks to existentialism, people want to know who you are and what you look like. They want to be able to "see" you as they read your work.

My first blog was hosted on Wordpress. It's still there. I wanted a new one with its own domain name. Transferring all the old info and updating the links was going to be a time suck, so I just started over so I would actually get to it.

First, let me say that whatever I read from you (blog, PB post) is always edifying. I appreciate the way God has gifted you, and I pray that He continues to use you for His glory and the good of the church.

Second, I rather like the layout of the new blog. I appears "clean" and readable. I put clean in quotes knowing that some of that may be because there is not (yet) a tremendous amount of content on the home page.

I look forward to your posts on this blog, much as I did on your last blog.

Ben works for the government. The government is harvesting pictures from the internet for their vast database. They've probably already associated my picture attached to this post to their file on me.

It's nice and readable, but I second Ben's suggestion of having a picture. I don't mean to offend anyone, but I think it's weird when people won't ever show their face, but then again, I also work for the government.

A perfect place for your picture would be on the "about me and my blog" page. I recommend a picture like the one I did on the "welcome" page on my site. Notice how wonderful it is? How deceptively warm and inviting I appear?
You'd never guess that I work for the government.

Not bad. However, I must confess that I was sort of expecting to see a picture of you hunched over at a massive desk with a pile of old parchments and feather pens littering your desk... with a raven in a cage behind you and a bleached human skull on the corner of your desk.

My wife loves tinkering on the web. She was profoundly offended when I initially asked someone else (someone on the PB) to help me put my site together. However, she soon showed me the error of my ways... so I had her take over my site. One of the better calls I ever made. Now all I do is write a post and give it to her and she handles the rest. It makes me feel like a CEO or something. Give it a try!

It's a good picture. It ought to be on your home page. Seriously. A good blog makes a connection with readers, and a picture is a huge part of that. When you have a good picture like that, there's no reason to hide it. Put it out front. It's kind of like looking someone in the eye when you shake their hand. It makes the connection much warmer.
