Puritan Board Freshman
I am going to purchase a set and would like some opinions on which set to purchase. I am not interested in electronic books, please. Here are the sets in which I am interested:

George Swinnock
Edward Reynolds
John Newton

Thanks for your gracious assistance.

No doubt all sets would be excellent, but my pick would be the Banner of Truth Works of John Newton. You have mentioned a few times of your difficulties in health. John Newton will greatly edify you. He saw the worst of human suffering in the Slave trade and also cared for William Cowper in his difficult battle with mental illness. Newton showed great compassion to William Cowper. Hence he had a well rounded view of the Christian life. This set is full of rich spiritual wisdom.

I have both Swinnock and Newton and almost all the Banner sets. Swinnock I think is one of the most underrated Puritan sets out there, his work on the fading of the flesh(tons of illustrations like Thomas Watson), and the Christian man's calling (almost 3 volumes on the life of a Christian) is robust and an amazing detailed work. If you're a Pastor I have found Newton's works to be so heartwarming. In the first volume, he has a bunch of letters on religious subjects that are filled with Christ and the pastoral touch. I have not read any of Reynolds.

What kind of material are you wanting and what are you looking to get out of them?
Very good question! I should have included more info in my original post.
I like to read sermons and letters especially uplifting, encouraging material that helps me remember the glories of heaven and help me to look beyond the trials and cares of this world. I prefer authors from the Scottish Reformation and secondarily English independents but do not limit myself to those two entirely. Hope that is helpful. Thank you for asking that question.

6 volumes of Flavel on sale at Banner now is hard to beat
I have Flavel but thanks for the suggestion.

Curious about what you end up choosing. Keep us updated.

Well, I went s slightly different direction after discussing this with the household advisor. I have Newton and Swinnock in Logos but I still prefer print books for reading. I decided to get:
365 Days with Newton
Newton on the Christian Life
The Nature of the Church by John Brown
Alexander Stewart of Moulin: A Transformed Life and Ministry (Sievewright)
The Existence and Attributes of God: Updated and Unabridged 2-Volume Set (Charnock)

Additionally, John Newton's Letters is high on my list.

I know this is quite different than that for which I sought opinions. Charnock is a favorite and the bit I have read on the Attributes of God refreshed my soul greatly.
My household advisor pointed out that my book space is limited and perhaps this would be a better use of resources.

Thank you to all who helped me think through my quest for more books. Very, very much appreciated.
