What is your struggle? Everyone has a struggle they are facing it may be relationships, family, money worries, emotions, health, or something else. Whatever your struggle is know that you are not the only person in the world who is facing this. We all have a list of personal areas of struggle. The book of Psalms is full of people who are struggling with something. We can read their thoughts and know how they felt. As Christian people, we ought to turn to God for help. The ungodly turn to anything but God when dealing with personal issues and hardships. We have a Father in Heaven who has promised to never leave nor forsake his people. Talking about our issues with a trusted friend or family member can help at times, but there are sometimes when only God can help us.Psalm 130 was probably written by Solomon. The author of this Psalm knew where to turn to and found peace and comfort in God. Yes, even in hard times we can know the joy of the LORD. In the opening verse the Psalmist writes, “Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord.” In the depths of despair, the Psalmist is aware of his sinfulness and his need for God. Notice how there is no self-help or self-pity here, but a cry unto the Lord. In verse 2 the author is pleading with God to hear his voice and to be attentive to his supplication. As Christians, we can have confidence and assurance that when we cry unto God our Lord hears our voice and listens to our shout for help.
When we feel the weight and guilt of sin it can be difficult to believe that God does forgive us. We can have hope and faith in the Word of God and in the forgiveness of God. In verse 4 the Psalmist says, “But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.” This verse points to our only source of solace in the depths of sin. Not every struggle we face is a result of sin, but often our battles are due to us not following God’s wisdom in the first place. God has not promised us an easy and stress-free life, but he has promised to walk alongside us in everything we do. When facing hard times, we ought to look to God for wisdom and direction. We may need to talk about our issue to seek clarity and help. Whatever we face daily know that there is a God who cares about us, and he is always there to listen to the voice of his people.
“I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.”
Psalm 40:8
