The Sadducees beliefs

Hey all,

I was wondering about the sadducees last night. As I understand it, they only accepted the the Pentateuch (1st 5 books) as scripture. Does anyone know why they rejected the rest?

Perhaps they held to a sort of Moses-only-ism.
What is interesting is that when Jesus talks to them about the resurrection, he only quotes from the part of Scripture that they accept, and still proves them wrong.
