Yes, but once the south succeeded from the union, they asked the union army to leave. When the union refused, the south upped the ante. It is hard for us to understand today because we have a completely different view of our country, but none of the original thirteen colonies would have ever agreed to form a union if they knew they were not free to exit the union at will.

AND no one died. The whole thing was an intentional provocation on the part of Lincoln to justify the invasion he had planned NOT to end slavery, but to force the southern states to continue their tariff payments. That is exactly what he said he would do on the election stump and in his inaugural address. Please read the record rather than swallow the nationalistic pablum spoon-fed the future drones in the public (gov't) schools.
