There have been a number of post recently on people experiencing difficult trials and suffering. I thought you might be helped and edified by this conference recently hosted by two Reformed Churches in Tasmania (Free Reformed Churches of Australia).

Organization for next year's conference is already underway. The topic will be "Christian Truth in a Postmodern World."

My pleasure Wes. It's quite impressive that you had people from nearly every Australian state given that the FRCA are only in three states (I pray the FRCA will be able to plant churches in other States). Great to hear David and Jenny Waldron speak too.

I was inspired by your comments that reading the Puritans can be a spiritual tonic for the mentally ill. At the moment I am reading the 'Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment' by Jeremiah Burroughs. He emphasises a quiet heart and a calm mind; we get this by looking to Christ and being united to Him. Very helpful.

I don't like suffering nor do I know anyone who does, but it seems to be the greatest avenue of sanctification; the all-wise intended destruction of our security blanket so we have no one or nothing left to turn to....Thanks for this, Stephen.

Thanks brother. I don't like suffering either but God uses it to shake me out of spiritual apathy and depend on Him. Trust you are edified by these messages.

Wes during your lecture you mentioned the Puritan Thomas Brooks as being particularly edifying. Out of the accessible Paperback works, which ones do you recommend. His Puritan paperback "Heaven on Earth" comes to mind. I am sure there are many others
