out.

He left a bad taste in my mouth when I attended his church in Colorado Springs back in 1990. However, even after reading a story like this, I refuse to gloat over this. It is only an allegation. I am sure that we will find out everything in the days and weeks to come.

Sad thing is, his enemies are going to have a field day over this one.

I am no fan of Haggard. Frankly, I don't know much about him. However, I think I smell a rat here.

If it is true, God help him.

I hope this is not true brethren but nothing and I mean nothing surprises me these days. In any case the enemies of Christ will use this for great occasion to blaspheme.

Haggard's accuser fails polygraph

Good news - Haggard's accuser fails a polygraph.

Bad news -
Haggard, 50, initially denied the allegations, telling 9News Wednesday night that "I’ve never had a gay relationship with anybody, and I’m steady with my wife. I’m faithful to my wife."

But KKTV in Colorado Springs reported that New Life Associate Senior Pastor Ross Parsley told a meeting of church elders Thursday night that Haggard had met with the church’s overseers earlier in the day and "had admitted to some indiscretions."

Parsley told the elders that Haggard had said some of the allegations were true, but not all of them.

I don't know if the allegations are true BUT

I know if I was accused of such a thing I would not parse words in a Clintonesque way.

I would NOT say I did not have a gay "relationship".

I would scream CLEARLY at the top of my lungs that I never ever in anyway touched a man in a sexual way or in any way that could be construed as sexual. No way! Nope! Huh Uh. DID NOT DO IT OR ANYTHING REMOTELY LIKE IT. No gay relationship, touch, wink or thought.

Frankly my sin nature would then commence to whip the person that said I did.

So when I hear these 'clever' answers where later a guy could say "I denied a relationship... but I didn't say that for a quick moment he and I were never in bed together. Thats not a relationship. In a relationship you send flowers and stuff."

I get suspicious.
I get ill.

Here is a video to a brief interview with the Senior Pastor that took over for Haggard.

I'm not trying to be funny here but look at his guy. Effeminate you decide?

Here is a video to the radio interview of the homosexual accuser.

Haggard admits buying methhttp://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,650204162,00.html
Evangelist Ted Haggard admitted Friday that he bought methamphetamine and received a massage from a gay prostitute who claims he was paid for drug-fueled trysts by the outspoken gay marriage opponent.
Haggard resigned Thursday as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and stepped down as leader of his Colorado megachurch while the two groups investigate the allegations.
Talking to reporters outside his house Friday, Haggard denied the sex allegations but said that he did buy meth from the man because he was curious.
"I bought it for myself but never used it," he said. "I was tempted, but I never used it."
This whole thing is depressing. The "I bought it but did not take it" echoes of Clinton's "I did not inhale" defense. I am sorry for him, his family, and his church. May the mercy of God be with them all.

The higher the profile, the bigger the target to the Enemy. Though we can disassociate ourselves from these types on the basis of theological differences, the World still lumps us all together. Whether its Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker, or Mr. Haggart, all the World sees is another hypocritical Christian. And in this case, it is one that had influence in the White House.

It really does make you ill.

I have been watching this news and it makes me sad to think of it. I do not know if it is true or not but the person who first told this story on the radio hardly comes off as trust worthy. I do not want to judge. Sure he is choosing his words well - which seems somewhat suspicious - but he has probably also been told to watch what he says right now.

Which leads me to my question. Has anyone read this book:

Title: Character of an Upright Man: A Plea for Personal Integrity

Author: Richard Steele

I am grieved over this; it should keep us on our toes. It truly is a battle. The devil roams around like a venomous lion, looking for his next prey. Who's next? lets pray for this man.

Scott, you hit the nail on the head.

Admittedly, I'd harbored some bitterness toward Haggard over some of the things I'd experienced at his church way back when. However, in spite of the whirlwind surrounding these events, I have been reminded of one thing: "Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him." (Prov. 24:17-18).

On a tangent, I'm left to wonder how well he really knows his Bible. My experience with him is that he only knows a certain doctrine, but the dispensation behind it is way out of line with the ability to "rightly dividing the Word of Truth."

Lest I forget: :pray2: and never cease doing so.

Here is a link about Ted Haggard being a false teacher/prophet:

http://www.in-sheeps-clothing.org/falseprophet.html

There are many problems from Open Theism to outright arrogant blasphemy known to be connected to Haggard.

Unfortunately, shame will be brought on the name of Christ. Yet, this moment is an opportunity to explain (teach) the truth from falsehood.

It's right to judge rightly.

Robin :book2:

I didn't want to appear as though I was cutting him loose earlier - he does indeed need prayer now more than ever and this crisis in his life may be the catalyst to show him the true gospel. The devil is chuckling quietly at this one because it is always the higher profile ones that hurt the most.

If Joe Average at OPC Paducah fails in his walk, it is disturbing, but probably has little effect. If Rev. Doright fails in his walk, hundreds of worshippers' faith may be shaken or lost. While Haggard himself may very well be a false prophet, there are those solid evangelicals who, due to this, are no longer solid, perhaps no longer evangelicals, and may well leave the faith altogether. Whether we associate ourselves with him or not, we are all blackened (to some degree) by this sin to those who are examining us as 'Christians' and who have in the past seen our daily lives as a testament to God's love.

I happened to be in a Charismatic church this morning where they prayed for Haggard and the speakers (regular pastor and guest preacher) said how good a minister he had been, how they knew people who had benefited from him etc. A comparison was made, perhaps justifiably, with King David's fall from grace. Does anyone know anything further about Haggard, what he taught, his church etc? I had never heard of him until yesterday.

I clicked on the site Robin linked to above. If some of that stuff is true, then it is truly fascinating, especially the effiminate (as already alluded to in this thread) young guys he allegedly has in his circle.

I have already gotten in a debate with an agnostic trying to lump us all in together. May we use something like this to spread the truth.

Finally, I was reading an aritcle in a liberal magazine several months back regarding the "religious right" (focusing on Haggard, Falwell & Robertson). The sad thing is when they ask who they look up to, Francis Schaeffer is one of the prominent names. Thankfully, some one (not me) wrote a letter to the editor saying these guys do not understand Schaeffer, etc. It saddens me for the legacy of Doctor Schaeffer that these men, including Haggard, claim him as an influence. All of our names are now in the muck, may we use the opportunity to bring the truth of the Gospel to light.

:amen:

"...not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation." Heidelberg Catechism Q&A 1

If this is to impact us, it is His will; we will somehow be the better for it. My wife's first reaction to it was sorrow for his family. Married, with five children. His wife and children need prayer as much or more than he himself does.

White Horse Inn interview with Haggard

"The White Horse Inn" did an interview (or at least played part of an interview) with Haggard several months ago.

He was categorically denying that preaching needed to be "Christ-centered". He said it just needed to be "Bible-centered", which makes me think he is talking about "principles for successful living".

He also claimed to be doing pretty well with the whole "Law" thing, and when the interviewer admitted that he stumbles over the Law everyday and gave an example or two, Haggard said, "Well, stop doing that!"

The rest of this post, I edited out.... I felt that maybe I was being uncharitable towards him, and I didn't want to take a chance of doing that.

Wow! Guess he knows now that doesn't work! I trust that God is using this to lead him to the real Gospel.

It is very sad that yet another person gave into temptation and placed in the media for all the world to see.

But it should serve to remind us as the Body of Christ, that but by the grace of God go I. We may not struggle with the same sin, and we may not be famous and have our name in the news, but there are other people close to us that are watching to see when we stumble and fall.

How do we do in our own walk?

He was right on this topic. Here is some advice that Haggard offered to his two oldest boys as they headed off to college. It was printed in his book called "Letters from Home." This is very good advice for all of us to follow.

From the chapter called "Live as if there are no secrets":

"Major leaders have lost their positions of influence because of what they did alone in a room,..."

"Please don't ever fall into the trap of believing that you can do something in secret, even when you are far away from home. This is a lie, and it will always come back to haunt you."

I have discovered that all human evil comes from this, man's being unable to sit still in a room.

It looks like James Dobson and a couple others are going to "re-educate" him and get him all fixed up. Let's pray that somewhere in there he actually hears the Gospel. Poor guy!
