Our Greatest Need

Our Church is beginning a new study written by who I view to be a "Pop-Pastor". In the study he makes the claim that forgiveness of sins is our "greatest need". I see forgiveness as one of the benefits of Justification which is our greatest need. Do I make too much of the issue and should I therefore give Pop-Pastor a break?

What about saying that our greatest need is Christ Himself? Redemption is a means to get to the Redeemer. So even justification is a means to the end/telos which is Jesus.

YES! Christ Himself is our greatest need. Thanks for clarifying even my own notion. All is distilled to its essence in Christ.
I can't immediately recall who said this: "For every look to oneself, take ten looks to Christ."

I share your concern brother, but give him a chance. If he gets carried away in nonsense then quietly and peacefully find another church home. I can tell by the term "pop pastor" that there is already contention there.:2cents:

I dunno, but my pastor says it all the time! As pious as my statement was above, there is always danger in separating the person and work of Christ. You can't get to the person without his work and vice versa. Plus we get to the Father only through the Son by the regenerating work of the Spirit. So in reality we want a Trinitarian focus.
