It Occured to Me This Morning....

Pastor
I just got the news today that one of our assistant managers is transferring to upper New York state. He's a great manager and a wonderful young man. He has called me father and I've called him son. We kinda kid around with that but we do really respect each other.

Another assistant manager will be moving soon too. He is the "elder" manager of our group. With his move I will be the oldest manager in the building. Not even the store and co-managers are even close to my age. Just an interesting fact, I suppose.

But here's the kicker. At church we have a man that recently lost his wife of over fifty years of marriage. A wonderful couple! The son of the man has asked him to move in with his family. The son is in the progress of transferring and is looking for a home in the Milwaukee area. When that happens the gentleman from our church will be moving and will also move his church membership.

When he moves I will be the oldest man in the church. I will be the elder Elder! As I type this I wonder...how did I get here? It's not a responsibility that I fear, but I have a position in life that came up to me without me even realizing it.

What is really interesting is the situation of our church. At almost 56 years old I am the oldest male member of our church. I'm having a problem wrapping that around my brain, but that's problem just because I'm so old!

I'm sure that situation will change. I'm sure the LORD will send other gentlemen older than I to be members of Maranatha. But it speaks volumes to me that I have reached this point in my wife and I praise Almighty God for His grace, mercy and love in my life. I am blessed!

NOW....let the old man jokes fly!!! :judge: ;)

I'd never want to discourage you, but as time passes, its less likely that this will happen. Nothing is impossible, of course, but I just don't want you to get your hopes up.

Respectfully (as is proper when addressing older folks),

Bob

Hey Ivan, have you joined AARP yet? I just got another email from them. I get a letter nearly once a month for the last two years but I haven't given in yet. I'll join when I finally start getting those cool discounts.

I feel so bad for you that I almost want to make you my adopted Grandpa, but I'm afraid I'd be put on "changing the Depends" duty.

(I'm gonna feel bad about that statement if you really are using them )

56!!! Wow - you are old enough to be my Dad!!!

(If you procreated at 15 :D)

Seriously - can't think of a better elder Elder, my brother :)

Father Ivan,

Would you like to borrow some of my Aricept and Namenda? Memantine HCL does wonders with those pesky mid-stage memory issues.

Ivan,

And don't forget the prune juice. Being regular is not the same as being a regular Baptist.

That right there is funny!

He could be my dad too. My dad is 55. I'm 37. But I don't think of my dad as old. So I don't think of Ivan as old either.

Thank you, Bob. Yes, as time goes by it will be less likely that there will be men in the church older than me...but that's better than the alternative...;)

I'd rather Ivan join the ARP...

No, I haven't submitted to the authority of AARP! They have been after me too. I'll leave that to my wife. When she thinks we should join, we will. Right now it's not looking good for them. She's not convince.

Now the ARP. I'd be much more interested in that, but that little thing about baptism hinders. However, I do respect my dear brothers and sisters in Christ in the ARP. Remember, we will be sharing heaven together!

No Depends here........yet! Yeah, it may happen someday, but as I recall it never has been a necessity in any of my family. Of course, I could be the first.

I'll let you know when I need you!! :p

No procreating at fifteen for me. Of course, as a fifteen year old teenage boy....well.....ah, nevermind.

If I could remember to take my meds I wouldn't need them! :p

Ivan,

I actually like a glass of prune juice, probaby need it more than I thinki.

Hey! My mom is 56 (lol) Sorry brother.

And what's wrong with being 56. Nothing to be sorry about. I likw being 56!

He could be my dad too. My dad is 55. I'm 37. But I don't think of my dad as old. So I don't think of Ivan as old either.

Thank you, young lady!

I don't feel 56. At about 50 I was in the best shape of my life. I don't think I could get in that good a shape again, but I could do a lot better.

Ivan, start to worry when your the oldest person on The PuritanBoard.

You mean to tell me that there are people here older than me!!! GASP!!!! SHOCKING!!!

Pray tell, who are these old coots of which you speak?!

 Not to be an alarmist but is this one of the signs of old age? Or maybe it's just a Freudian slip. Hmmm.

Kidding aside, I agree with you Ivan, you truly are blessed. Thanks for sharing!

Not me! But I'm older than most I think. But unlike most, I've enjoyed getting older.

Well, first of all I don't believe in Freud...or is that Frued? Don't believe in the psychological claptrap. But I know what you mean.

However, in a sense it is a "point that I've reached in my wife". My life is very much connected to my wife. She is an important part of my sanctification...God bless her. Believe me, it hasn't been easy for her. Yet, she is as sweet, kind and lovely as on the day I married her.

I suppose she'd married me again. I know I would her!
