I can't even imagine the knife through the heart for a wife or mother when that military sedan pulls up and an officer steps out.

I assume all those in fatigues were basic trainees at Lackland.

My son was wounded in Iraq in Oct of 2007. He is Army infantry. He had three buddies killed three days before. My son should have been killed but the bomb in the building was not placed correctly and he servived. They thought he had internal injuries at first but he did not. He lost part of his right foot, and he had multiple sharpnal wounds up and down his body. We did not get a visit by car but we got the dreaded phone call. My wife said you better take this call, she was shaken up. He may be getting out on a medical discharge in January.

Chapel was always the highlight of my husband's week when he was there The only time he ever left something out, he did not get into trouble, merely a reminder...it was his Bible he hadn't been able to put away quickly enough.

I spent 18 months as a chaplain to basic trainees at Fort Sill ... an interesting bunch to minister to.

Thankyou for your concern for my son. The Army has and is taking good care of him. About three weeks after he was wounded they sent him to the hospital at Fort Jackson, SC which is just 100 miles from our home. They treated him like a king because at that time he was the only combat wounded they had there. Most of the people in that hospital were injured in basic training. My wife and I even sat in when the doctor examined his foot. We have lost count of how many operations he has had. He will have another at the end of April.
