Knowing that women (especially wives) can sometimes get concerned about what men talk about when they're by themselves, I'd like to spread a little reassurance about the kinds of things we men talk about in the "Men Only Forum".

We talk about things like:

how much we like ironing
ways to cut down on beer consumption so we'll have more time to wash and wax the kitchen floor
creative ways to take out the trash
how much we enjoy trailing around with our wives at the mall
how much we enjoy deep, emotionally rich conversations
the fact that we secretly enjoy "chick lit" and "chick flicks"
and, of course, our deep conviction that sex is only for making babies

There, now! I hope I've put our PB women's concerns to rest!

Would I lie to you? :D

I never got around to asking for the password for the Men Only forum. This thread has clearly convinced me that I'm missing out. I feel a deep emotional need to discuss how much I like ironing with my fellow males, and, though I'm still single and planning to remain so, I'd like to find out how to trail round after a wife at the mall, just in case I ever end up married.

I do the family ironing on Saturday nights while watching bad monster movies on the SciFi Channel. I'm not making this up, it's the most relaxing part of my week. (Not sure what that says about the life I lead.)

Is this why Mark Driscoll doesn't post on the Puritan Board? :D

I actually do all of my own ironing. I'm a stickler about it. I'm also old school. I soak my shirts in a starch solution, let them dry, and then iron them. I do the same thing to chinos and other cotton slacks.

Bill's the same way. He has Navy standards for his ironing. I hate ironing, so he covers it in love. I still press his stuff, but I'm not good at fancy pleats and stuff. :um:

you hereby promoted to Grand Propane of the men's forum!:lol::lol:

Lawrence, I go a step further...not only do I iron my own clothes, I even iron my t-shirts, and yes, sometimes even skivvies.

Yep, me too. But, NO STARCH!

Not only do they feel better they take up a lot less room in my dresser. That is important in the old antique dresser I use.

Starch for shirts only...definitely not for my shorts. :wow: (I have actually gotten away from starching, so yes - you win.)

No way, dude. Starching undershirts or any undergarment is THE trump card. You are a manly man!

As a PB Freshman, I am truly glad I cannot visit the "men's forum"--clearly I'm not "menly" enough! I thought ironing meant hanging clothing over the door! Starch is the carbo stuff the ladies count with their other calories! What on earth is a "bad" monster movie? And what do skivvies need to look like to "really need" ironing? Inquiring minds need to know!

This is a totally, completely accurate list, if a bit incomplete. Richard forgot to mention 1. the deeply moving blow-by-blow accounts of the fashion shows, 2. the plot analyses of soap operas, 3. the character analyses of soap operas, 4. the Who's Who list of romance novel authors, 5. the memory bee for Cosmo, 6. the teen vocabulary lists (fortunately, this one doesn't take all that long), 7. biography details for the Spice Girls, and 8. the latest gossip concerning Desperate Housewives.

This is also what we discuss. Perhaps there is no reason to have separate forums.

Heidi, you're priceless. I could never possibly be as witty as you.

Rev. Keister, you should meet my family; I am the slow, stupid one when it comes to wit :-).

You terrify me no end. What is your family: a conglomeration of Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, with a spot of Wodehouse and Dave Barry thrown in for extra measure?

It is worth pointing out that fora give the poster the opportunity to come up with a witty retort without appearing as slow as he or she ordinarily would in a real-time conversation. :2cents:

And for what it's worth, I don't iron. I do wash dishes and mop though.

 I will have to send that to my sister!

The dinner conversation is such that she crosstitched a plaque for my dad to hang in the dining room: "Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies."

(Although my dad will be the first to tell you he is a West Virginia 'hillbilly' -- He is hilariously funny and very quick with jokes: I didn't inherit the quickness -- I'm always inordinately pleased when I make anyone laugh *on purpose*. Anyone who came to our house laughed a lot.)

Exactly :-)

Who could help but like movies where men make all disastrous choices while they stand around with moony faces and puppy-dog eyes (no religious cult references here!) emoting to no one in particular; all with no fast moving cars, things blowing up, intrigue, or apparent plot?
