A confession to make

Well I have a confession to make to a brother here on PB.
A while back a brother (sorry can not remember who) here on the PB told of an encounter with a bat in his house and that this had happen some times before as well.
So basically the confession is this, I thought "Only in America" that NEVER happens, due to things we are told about bats overhere like their fear of humans, tight spaces etc. I thought nah never happens.

But just 20 min ago I was watching clips on my mac and because something made the light flikker like when a mosquito flies infront of the lamp, my eyes were drawn away from the screen to see what it was and there it was, a bat cirkling around my living room twice before sort of crash landing behing my stereo.
I only have one window open in the livingroom and only a crack, (one of those windows that can tilt entirely and only be open at the top.
But somehow it got in anyway.
I went out to find a bucket and something to use as a lid to catch it in, but as I returned only 1 min later it was completly gone.

No Idea how it got in, it may have left through the door I opened it to chase it out that way when I got back.

But Ruben if that was you, you are always welcome for a beer, but just call ahead and do not show up at 1:45 am okay.

Martin, it may have been Ruben. He has an uncanny knack for slipping in undetected, wrecking havoc, and then taking off.

Well, Martin, at least you didn't have to kill the poor critter like I did. But our intruder got in somehow with no windows or doors open. Like I said, it happens every few years. I guess it's just one of the things that comes with living in an older home.

Sorry I was busy and couldn't stay longer. Next time I'll try to bring a present.

James (or Martin)--what about chimney access? The one time I've had a bat in my house, we assumed the chimney was the point of ingress. Of course, if it was Ruben, closed doors and windows pose no problem for a guy like him!

Our chimney has a wire cap to keep birds and bats out and besides that it is only connected to the furnace with no other openings. The point of egress is and probably will remain a mystery. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't Ruben at my house cause I dispatched that intruder and I don't think bats have extra lives like cats.

Which means you have absolutely no idea where in your house it may be hiding, waiting to swoop down on you in the dark. Sleep well, my friend!

We have a closed chimney so though it mght be able to get into it from the outside, it can not get into the house from it. it would be stuck inthere.

So just now at 10:30 pm the bat returned from out of nowhere, I was putting our son to sleep, but this time my wife was in the livingroom and it flew around again, but the bucket and lid was ready from yesterday so she caught it.
There you go no bat messes with my wife. we will let it out in a sec.
