Do you know anyone who does Missions fund raising auctions?
That is something our church does every year, hold a church auction, people auction off their time, talents, gifts, or items they have around the house and all the money raised goes to our missions fund.
My daughters auction off babysitting hours--since they love caring for children.
Another woman auctions off a pie a month, she will bake one pie a month for the family who buys that item.
Another man installs flooring, so he auctions off his labor cost to install flooring for someone who buys that.
another gentleman loves working w/ wood, so he will make various items and auction those off.
his wife knits such and makes items she auctions off, and other woman paints, and auctions off her paintings, another teaches music and auctions off classes, our former pastor auctioned off a night of "dogs and doctrine"..he'd grill hot dogs for 10 to 12 people and they could ask him any type of questions they had on doctrine; even the small groups and Sunday school classes would auction off things like ice cream socials for a party of 10 or 12, or dinner for a party of 10 or 12, another gentleman is a chef and auctions off an authentic Japanese dinner for so many people, and his family prepares and serves it. For these Sunday school classes and small groups collect a few dollars each week from people in the class and put it aside just for the missions auction to bid on it--and they could have three or four hundred dollars saved over the course of a year to bid on those, and the group that auctioned it off will cook for the group that bought it--those are a lot of fun..
Another lady makes gift baskets (baby showers, sporting parties and such) and auctions those off..
So I was thinking if your wife feels a fur coat she bought for $5 is an extravagance, if you know of a church that has something like this, that helps support their missions or missionaries, maybe she would consider donating it to something like that??
