Is anyone here on the PB using Office 2010 Beta? I'm especially interested in what changes you have seen, and how Outlook is different. I just installed it a couple of days ago.

You aren't using Windows 7 are you Fred? I ask because Outlook is not compatible with Windows 7 as far as I can tell.

Thanks Fred. I have Office 2007 but didn't see .Outlook to download it. I just got this puter yesterday and couldn't find outlook on the puter. So I googled it and found out I was suppose to use some Windows Live version. Maybe I need to look on the disk itself.
Outlook should be a part of the Office suite. Which version (Student, Professional, etc.) do you have?
Office, Home, Student. But I don't see it on the disk. Should I try the free beta version. I have 64 bit.
I would use the 32 bit. 64 doesn't give any real benefit, and it makes almost every third party thing break.
I downloaded the beta and it seems to be working quite nicely Fred.

i still can't get used to the 2007 "ribbon"
I'm testing Office 2010 Beta at work and on my sister's PC. It has some nice new changes, and some not-so-nice (Ribbon bar in Outlook too now). But at least you can customise the ribbons now. Personally, I'd rather have the option to go back to the traditional menus.
I agree. I am a bear of very little brain and the simpler the better.

I used it for a little while, about a month, while I was using Windows 7. I've been using OpenOffice for about 6 or 7 years now with only using Office at school (currently version 2003).
I found it pretty nice. I liked a few new features, such as the citation manager, although I can get extensions to do that in O
. Outlook 2007 froze on me more than anything else when I tried to use it with my GMail IMAP account. Featurewise it was nice. However, some of the only features I liked in Office are missing now, such as Autosummarize in Word.
Also, the ODF import/export filters aren't that great. I had problems moving documents from my netbook with O to my laptop with Office 2010 that only had minimal formatting. I had to save to Office format from O and it worked fine. But then again, I guess this isn't an issue for everyone.
Well anyway. I didn't play with it tooo much. Mostly just used Word and Outlook for about a month along with one or two things in Publisher, Powerpoint, and Visio. My family is really liking it thought as I put it on all there machines.
But I've come running back to OpenOffice.org. I'm too used to it I guess!
