The main problem associated with Calvinism's doctrine of election is that it must be constructed in such a way as to either avoid "universal" passages such as John 3:16 or 1 Timothy 2:1-6 or Hebrews 2:9 or 1 John 2:1-2 in order to come to the conclusion that God's love is only for the elect and that Christ died only for the elect and not the whole world. Furthermore, Calvinist have to reinterpret words such as "all" and "world" to mean "not all" and "not the whole world" while avoiding the clear meaning of the passages. The overwhelming evidence of the New Testament is that God loves the whole world and that Jesus Christ came to die for the sins of all (2 Corinthians 5:18-21). All, in Arminianism, means all but in Calvinism all does not mean all.
