Luke 6:35 "But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil."

Matt 6:4 "That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly."

What will be the basis of the rewards the Christian receives? It seems obvious enough from verses such as the ones above, but will we be declared righteous because of Christ (his perfect obedience, satisfaction of the penalty of the Law, the imputation of his righteousness)...and then rendered rewards according to OUR specific deeds of righteousness that we did as Christians in this life?

Interesting question. You note that in one account (Mt 25) the sheep and the goats are separated before the judgment. It seems as if one aspect of judgment is already clear before the judgment, one group is righteous and the other is not. I would assume because of being in Christ or not. But then we are rewarded based on our works.

I think you are on the right track. He crowns his own work that he does upon his creatures. And, he graciously calls it "our work", because we are the ones in whom it is acted out.

Not sure if this is what you were getting at with your question...

Blessings!
