Can False Teaching Be Considered..

I was flipping through the WLC catechism this morning after asked a different question by a fellow PBer and something else popped up in my head...

Can false teaching be considered a violation of the 2nd commandment?

Q. 109. What sins are forbidden in the second commandment?
A. The sins forbidden in the second commandment are, all devising, counseling, commanding, using, and any wise approving, any religious worship not instituted by God himself; the making any representation of God, of all or of any of the three persons, either inwardly in our mind, or outwardly in any kind of image or likeness of any creature whatsoever; all worshipping of it, or God in it or by it; the making of any representation of feigned deities, and all worship of them, or service belonging to them; all superstitious devices, corrupting the worship of God, adding to it, or taking from it, whether invented and taken up of ourselves, or received by tradition from others, though under the title of antiquity, custom, devotion, good intent, or any other pretense whatsoever; simony; sacrilege; all neglect, contempt, hindering, and opposing the worship and ordinances which God hath appointed.

Yes, false teaching that counsels or tends to unbiblical worship would be a violation. False teaching or "maintaining of false doctrines" more properly comes under the sins forbidden in the 3rd commandment, though (WLC #113).

When the teaching is about God and the Church yes. If the teaching is about personal relations, or proper business, then I believe it would be a violation of the second table of the law.

Thank you,that's what I was looking for,I was unsure which commandment would false teaching specifically would fall under.

Now that I think about it,a case can be made that false teaching,especially by those who espouse the prosperity gospel can be in violation of all 10 commandments to some degree or another.

Yes; keep in mind the third rule given in WLC 99.
"That one and the same thing, in divers respects, is required or forbidden in several commandments."

This is one of the reasons I'm encouraged to search the scriptures and test what I understand God to be.

When thought through, wrong doctrine also violates the ninth commandment.
While some matters are subject to different biblical interpretation, and its sometimes hard to know wrong and the various degrees of wrong teaching,
It's not okay to misrepresent God or His Word.
That's a challenge for all of us, church officers in particular.
The more you are given, the more is required.
