Yes. The conservative Roman Catholic church, home of 'liberation theology', nuns attacking nuclear plants, the Berrigan brothers. Those who ignore both history and current events can develop creative theories.

They should be. But, alas, Progressivism infects everything and is the cause of our current malady.

The Reformation was a reaction against the unorthodox beliefs of the Catholic Church. The Reformers were the true conservatives!

Though I appreciate Pat Buchanan, political pundits make poor theologians.

I am becoming more and more convinced that the answer is Protestant +nothing. Church +no state, no party, no political movement. I am a citizen of Christ's kingdom first. As a citizen of my nation here on earth, I will choose candidates and issues that cause me the least moral dilemma. A fallen nation will never truly advance the kingdom of Christ. It can, at best, provide the protections that enable believers to worship and serve God in peace.
