Can you top this for ridiculousness?

For years, churches in a local town had their parking lots plowed each winter by the town. This practice will stop this year, 'cause one man was offended that his taxpayer dollars are being spent for this purpose. Its a separation of church and state issue. He threatened to call in the ACLU and bring a big suit against the town unless they stopped. Its amazing that somebody'd be so offended that his tax dollars are spent in this way that he'd risk a trial that could cost his fellow taxpayers thousands or more in lawyer fees.

Can people be any more ridiculous?

(I'm reminded this season how ridiculous some in my town were a few years ago. Every year, around Christmas time, they set up among other things minuteman soldiers along the main drag. Some thought this was offensive because the rifles were sending the "wrong message" to our children. You know what they did? They replaced the rifles with great big candy canes. Talk about rewriting history. Oh brother)

A school district in Berks County Pa. mascot is a Davery Crocket type of character (real life person too) and on the flags, letter head, etc. bearing his image they took the rifle out of his hands and replaced it with a book!

Wow, that is ridiculous. I'm always amazed how quickly people back down once the ACLU is mentioned, even if the case has no merit.

...and now, some unsilent minority can sleep at night, safe in the conviction that they've done their part to make society a better place for us all to live in. I feel much safer now, don't you? Now I don't have to worry about my children going out, buying some guns, and going on a mampage somewhere. Ridiculous indeed.

I was thinking along the same lines. Since 'reading is fundamental', the guy holding the book must be a fundamentalist. Therefore, the book must be a bible, in which case I agree that somebody had better start a new petition.

I would wholeheartedly agree with that guy only, and only if members of the church did not likewise pay taxes. :bigsmile::bigsmile: people tend to forget that Christians pay taxes too, and likewise have rights in this society.

I read in the news this week that there is a town in Norway that has budgeted $150,000 in 2006 for playing the Lotto; and another town in Brazil which is mandating that businesses have 3 types of restrooms: for men, women and transvestites.

When someone where I work was changing from Daniel to Danielle there was quite a fuss by the women when (s)he went into the ladies room. I wonder where the town in Brazil would have h(er)(im) go.

Bob: What the town is doing may be illegal. It cannot treat churches differently than others.
