I had a car accident 2 weeks ago (at my job) that was my fault. I was pulling out of my parking spot and hit a car who was parked illegaly in a fire zone. It was a very minor accident but the security guard called the police. The officer made the police report and I picked it up today. My question is this: is there anyway of handling the damages outside of the car insurance? In other words, does the car insurance now know I was in a car accident? I would rather pay the damages done to his car out of my pocket than get the insurances involved. If the insurance company knows then obviously its too late. I dont want to get them involved because our insurance ( both his and mine) will rise. Does anyone on here know? Thanks..

Was the other driver/owner ticketed for illegally parking in a posted fire zone?

No they were not. We were both parked in the employee parking lot. That day there were a number of cars parked illegally. This may have been the reason why. The Police report does state though, that they were parked illegally.

You should take a look at your policy. You may have a contractual obligation to report all accidents to your insurer.

Unless otherwise contractually obligated to notify your insurer, you may deal with your claim one on one. At work we have a fleet of about 1000 vehicles, we try to deal with auto claims one-on-one. If there is an injury or extensive damage then it will go to insurance. We have a high deductible, so it should not really matter - but we like the one-on-one approach both to simplify matters and to keep our claim count down.
