Charles Hodge's Ecclesiology

Good afternoon all,

Hodge's 3 volumes do not contain any chapters or sections on his ecclesiology. It's likely that he intended another volume. I was listening to a podcast recently and they alluded to some other extant writings where we can read something of his doctrine of the church.

Does anyone know of any volume or book where he wrote on this subject. I know there are various articles in the Presbyterian Guardian etc. and have accessed some of those in the past. But are there any other sources?

Someone said they they are going redo Hodges Systematic, adding the Polity book, and translating the Latin. Due in a few years.

We are not adding the polity volume, but I will be writing an essay on his ecclesiology that will draw heavily from that volume, divided as it is between principles and application. Crossway is the publisher and had originally hoped to have it out next year. It's looking like 2027 instead.

It would probably be worth plumbing the contributions on ecclesiology to the Biblical Repertory and Princeton Review, which Hodge was editor of, from 1825-1878.

The content of his Church Polity consists of a number of BRPR articles (which Hodge edited until 1871), including the one on the church's perpetuity. But given the space limitation of the essay, I'll only be able to feature what I deem to be the highlights of his contribution here.
