In Titus chapter one, Paul states that an elder must have believing children. I was wondering what exactly this means. Thanks.

[b:956e37b00a]Titus 1[/b:956e37b00a]
6if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination.

It means that he must be ruling the house well and should be understood in conjunction with 1 Tim 3:4. As the father and head of the home he is responsble to be leading his household forward in the faith. Note that the term used is that his house be faithful and submissive, not that they all be "believers".

It does not mean the following things:

1. That an elder must have children.
2. That all of an elders children must be saved.

Instead of dealing with the faith of the family members, it is actually a qualification for the elders leadership in the home. He must be a godly man above reproach. If married he must be a faithful husband (he must fulfill the role God has designed for him as a husband as revealed in the Scriptures). And if he has children, then he should be ruling his house well, also fulfilling the role of a parent as directed in Scripture, not with a home full of rebellious and out of control children.
