After 6 years of planning, burning through $5 million in development costs whether we ended up building or not, pre-marketing in a down housing market, scrambling in a difficult economy to obtain financing, getting underway, completing the project on time and more than $1 million under budget, and getting jerked around by contradictory instructions from bureaucrats . . . we received the full approval from the State of California yesterday to extend our existing Certificate of Authority and Residential Care for the Elderly License.

* We begin to move in residents this next week (including a prominent missiologist and author of nearly a dozen books, several retired pastors, the rocket scientist responsible for the fuel on the moon shots, and a bunch of very interesting people).

* The 15 month effort included excavating and carrying away the equivalent of 1,700 dump trucks full of dirt for the underground parking lot, erecting a 135 foot crane in the middle of the project to lift the all steel framing modules into place, having as many as 165 workers on site at once, and experiencing NO injuries, accidents, or lost work due to injuries!!!

* Our design-build team successfully planned and engineered the project around an existing mature oak tree without doing it any damage in the process. The arborist says that it is healthier now than it was before we began the work.

* For those of you who prayed for me during this difficult time . . .

THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:wow: It would be so cool if my grandparents lived there (he's a very retired ABC minister; they probably live exactly where they need to be)

Praise be to God!

Dennis, what you describe in amazing. Construction projects of that magnitude do not go that smoothly. God's hand is amazingly evident in this.

Maybe now you can change your tag line underneath your handle!

Probably few design-build projects are the subjects of so much prayer! It's a beautiful facility, Dennis.

I'm with Lawrence. Things just aren't done that way (except the contradictory orders of bureaucrats who are getting back at the world for having been beaten up in High School). Un B Leavable.

Concurring with Lawrence and Tim--I'm floored at the outcome. Very well done, Dennis, and praising God for carrying you through all this.

Thanks, with what little I know of big construction projects, going nearly 16 months without even ONE injury (small or big) is pretty amazing.

Lawrence, I'm heading off to Fort Wayne to work on my (eventual) retirement home this week (lots of painting, getting a handyman to install a couple of ceiling fans, and finding a deal on a garage door). Changing the tag line might take a bit longer. My board wants me to move full speed ahead on the next six phases of the Master Plan (LOTS of more millions of $$$ to finance) while my dear wife of 37 years would have changed the tag line last year when our Indiana granddaughter was born!

The Lord is kind!

I'm a little worried about the sanity of moving from Alhambra to Fort Wayne, but grandkids do strange things to the brain. Enjoy!

Brad,

But if you would have seen her dip her finger in rice and beans and offer it up to grandpa, you would either say: "Ahhhhhhhh," or "YECH!!!"

Since "I" now owe $45,000,000 to bond holders, taking a little time with my little girl will be blessed respite indeed!

Mr. DMcFadden,

Congrats..I know you are excited to have this phase complete.

I noticed in the picture the Haskell Company was the design build company on this..they are local to me, my ex-husband worked for them for many years..
