I thought it was great. It actually portrayed Stonewall Jackson and faith in a positive light, I was quite surprized byt that. I thought it was fair, in that it tried to explain the motivations of both sides instead of being politically correct and trying to demonize the South which is what Hollywood usually does.

I found the acting weak, as well as the score. And what was the deal with Stonewall not taking cover from incoming fire? Was that supposed to show that he trusted in the sovereignty of God? I also agree with Bill that it was plodding and slow. I love the epic but this failed. Give me The Last of the Mohicans or Gladiator or Braveheart instead any day.
If you have confederate leanings you probably liked the film. But as a motion picture it was pretty lame. Gettysburg was much more enjoyable. The acting was better and the storyline held together. G.A.G. was slow, plodding and boring. In my humble opinion.

Give me Robert Duvall as General Lee over Martin Sheen any day.

I read recently that Robert Duvall "is actually a relative of" Robert E. Lee.

Got a link, brother? I want to read about this!

Duvall portrayed General Robert E. Lee in Gods and Generals in 2003 and is actually a distant relative of the historical figure.
Renowned actor Robert Duvall portrays Confederate General Robert E. Lee. “It was an honor to play a man like Robert E. Lee,” says Duvall, whose father hailed from Fairfax County, Virginia, and whose mother was a distant relative of the Lee family. “The role gave me a real sense of responsibility. Lee was a leader of men, fiercely patriotic, and deeply honorable and religious. It was a great privilege.”

Well, considering that Gettysburg was financed by Ted "Mr. CNN" Turner, I shouldn't be surprised at the outcome of that movie vs. G.A.G.Originally posted by puritancovenanter
