I was pulled over a few months ago on the Pa. turnpike going 85mph. The cop saw how I was dressed and asked "going to the Penn State game?" I told him I was (which was true) and he fined me for not obeying traffic signals/signs, which is a much lesser fine than it would have been for speeding and is no points added to your record. I am assuming he was a Nittany Lion fan.

Now THAT is funny.

I ended up being latER. Went to court, guilty with explanation. They reduced the fine, no points, 2 years PBJ.

PBJ? They made you eat Peanut Butter & Jelly for 2 years! Can they do that?

Yes. It helped my budget too. No more expensive travels to the store for MEAT!:wwbd:

seriously, it means probation before judgment. :)

Wait a minute....we have a color called Lemon Chiffon ? Come on. It's an established rule that men only see 16 colors. Who labeled this ????

For the Physics lovers out there....

Officer: "Son, do you know how fast you were going?"

Subject: "Sir, I have no idea, but I know exactly where I am."

That makes me crack up every time I think about it. But every time I tell someone that joke, I just get stares....

Really, I've been pulled 3 times, with two times being minor infractions in which I was just the "yes, sir" and "no, sir" overly apologetic type. One warning and one actual ticket.

The third was most interesting. I was by myself on a country road out of state, doing exactly the speed limit as it is a known speed-trap. The guy pulls me anyway, probably because it is just the middle of the night and he had nothing better to do.

Anyway, from the point I rolled down my window, the officer was about as nasty as he could possibly be. I was treated, not as a minor traffic law violator, but as an already-convicted criminal. Knowing just from his attitude that I would never have a shot at a warning ticket, I figured I'd make the chance worth my trouble.

In a 15-minute stop, I uttered not a single word after my first 'here you go, sir' when asked for license/registration, except for "For the record, I do not consent" when he said he would search my car. If you think being antagonistic or arguing with a cop makes them mad - that's nothing compared to the wonders of simply not responding at all to anything they say.

The transcript of the very long stop would have included many moments like this.

Officer: "What are you doing out here this late at night?"
Me: ..................Silence..........
Officer: "Are you aware that the speed limit here is 45?"
Me: ..................Silence..........
Officer: "Do you know how fast you were going?"
Me: ..................Silence..........
Officer: "Have you been drinking tonight?"
Me: ..................Silence..........
Officer: "Is this address on your license correct?"
Me: ..................Silence..........
Officer: "Step out of the car." (I do so). "What were you doing in that neighborhood back there?"
Me:...................Silence..........

Anyway, you get the idea. He searched my car illegally - I refused consent and he had no probable cause other than my not speaking, which of course does not meet the legal requirements for probable cause. And he ended up writing me a ticket for 6-over. I was not speeding.

I filed a complaint, and spoke to some of his superiors after that time, and was pleasantly surprised that they took me seriously and honestly believed the cop was in the wrong. He got a formal reprimand mainly because of many prior complaints about him, which I guess is more justice than most officers in such situations.

"The only reason I was speeding officer is because I REALLY have to poop!"

I actually have only seen this as a bumper sticker but I think it would be a great line to use...

Actually, a CHP officer acquaintance of mine said that "I have to go to the bathroom!!" is the #2 excuse people give for speeding!

I hear this one so much that, except in really obvious cases , I can't really tell who is telling the truth. I have never had anyone not make it though

It was February or Mid March of 2002 when I got my last speeding ticket. We were at a Jr. Highschool about 25 miles away from home playing basketball for a little league all star travelling team. We had just finished one game up and needed to be back in town in 45 minutes for an intramural home league game. I was on US 40. The speed limit is 55. Joshua and I were anxious to get back into town so I sped up to about 80 miles per hour. At that point Joshua said, "Dad, why can't we go any faster?" Now I am pretty much a stickler for going the speed limit. In fact my kids think I drive like a grandma. But just as he said that I looked over into the westbound lane and pointed and said, "That is the reason why?" At that moment a state trooper was traveling westbound and I knew he had clocked me. I kept on looking in my rear view mirror to see if his brake lights would come on as he would do a U turn to come back and get me. Well, as it goes I saw the brake lights so I just pulled over so he wouldn't have to chase me. By the time he caught up to me he was so focused on catching me that he passed me right by and noticed me sitting on the side of the road waiting for him. He was gracious and knocked the actual speed down to about 60 so the fine would be less and we had a nice conversation. I told him the truth and We both laughed. I was guilty and deserved the ticket so I had no complaints or excuses. And I thought he was rather merciful to me. I was going over 80 when he clocked me. LOL

BTW, God was watching me also. And I made sure Joshua Caleb understood that.
