If not, maybe it's something to consider...if you are prone to colds, head aches and such..

I have two house plants that I'm amazed have survived. In the past I've always managed to kill them off. Fish also don't have any chance of survival around me. I seem to only have luck with children, goats, cats, lizards, and dogs (though I did arrange to have one dog executed...he ended up serving a life sentence on a hog farm).

I have only ever been able to kill plants. I have a black thumb. My kids laughed when a neighbor asked me to take care of their plants while they were on vacation. I would love to have some plants, but never seem to have any success with them.

We have plants all over the house. My husband is gradually working on getting a plant business up and running, so we have plants and clippings of plants all over the place. I must admit, he removed the plants from my office, because I keep forgetting to water them.

She can even kill cactus

So we have ozone air purifiers instead

I've actually had houseplants on the mind lately! I live in a small apartment that's basically a walk-in basement, so I don't have a lot of space or light, but I've decided to try to start growing some things. I do have small back entry way and I'm going to try starting some morning glories inside and then putting them out to grow up a little trellis thing I have. I'm also going to try to start some forgetmenots, put them outside this summer, and then see if they'll stay alive inside during the winter. And I'm going to try to start growing some of my own herbs too. I'm feeling very ambitious about it all...we'll see how that works out for me. I have a feeling that many plants will meet their maker at my hands

I can remember as a child growing up, some one gave me a spider plant, I have no idea why they gave it to me, as I'd never had any plants before then and it was dying (what's the thought behind someone giving a dying plant to child??--I have no idea..but they did..

Anyway, I started clipping away all the dead leaves and stem's and within a few months it was huge.. and others started asking for clippings of the plant..

Then someone gave me a dying fern to take care of, when it came back to life, I gave it back..I found I preferred the spider plant, they seem easier to maintain...

I have a couple rose bushes outside that have been there for a number of years, I had three, two planted near each other (red and yellow), when my husband went to remove an older bush from near them he pulled them both up so I replanted them near each other and now I have one..that produces some beautiful yellow/red (sunrise) colored roses..

So I was wondering what others have that are fairly easy to maintain...

Cactus and succulents need full sun, usually, and will eventually die if they don't get it. Water once per week when hot, once per month when cool, fertilize once per year, and if they're in full sun they'll live.

I have one fern-like plant in my living room. It's surviving for the most part. It doesn't have a regular watering schedule since I always forget to water it. I just water it if there is some extra water in my glass or something. I definitely do not have a green thumb but am determined to have one.

Oh, I love houseplants....I have LOTS of them!! I have a couple of areca palms....I especially love exotic ones like orchids or bromeliads! Thats interesting to hear the benefits of having them.... I rarely do get headaches or colds now that I think of it!

I love them too, just don't have any yet...

I've got wild lily's growing in my yard, my 20 yr old has been going out and picking them and bringing them to me, "here mom, I picked you some flowers" and yes, even when my child is 20 years old it's sweet to have her pick wild flowers and bring them to me..just like she did when she was little..

I've always been afraid to try growing orchids, they just seem like a lot of work..

Perhaps you should try growing Kudzu.

LOL! That is sweet! Orchids ARE tricky....I had to do some research online, they like to be watered early in the morning and you have to be careful to not overwater them....which is so easy to do with those types!

Perhaps you should try growing Kudzu.

NO NO not Kudzu! it will bury the kids swing set and sleeping dogs and you will be trapped inside your house and never make it out alive. Think Sleeping Beauty and the 100 year old curse that buried the castle in thorns.

Kudzu is the curse of the South!! planted by yankee railroaders! and imported from Japan! (read this in a spooky voice)Beware the rhizomes of bamboo. Kudzu and bamboo are in a race to overgrow the South. Don't let it get a foothold in your yard or your neighbors will hate you

Kudzu is impossible to kill without using pollutants that make the ground toxic for 20 or so years. As long as you promise to never let a leaf or spilled dirt when the plant gets knocked over ever leave your house(even in a trash can) then I guess you might be prepared for the risk of kudzu. It's like the gremlins. If it ever gets outside it will take over --THE WORLD!(did you read that in a rising doom sort of voice?)

Perhaps you should try growing Kudzu.

I live in SC where Kudzu is everywhere. I bet if I tried to grow it I'd kill it too. Then I could hire myself out as the one and only Kudzu eradicator.

The Bromiliads mentioned are better choices for house plants than cactus since they don't need so much light. Keep moist, fertilize ever couple months lightly and remember when they bloom they die, but normally give you replacement plants from the bottom, so don't be too quick to throw them away. There are many different kinds to choose from as well.

Tim, those plants are beautiful!
I used to be a plant killer, but I have found some able to survive me: aloe, pothos, bamboo, and some little fern-type thing that I got for free from Home Depot for "joining" their garden club. It had no label so I have no idea what it is or what it needs and only lately does it seem to be dying.

I have started chives and basil in pots on my window sill, but so far, the seeds aren't doing much--and it's been a couple months. I think I messed that up.

Seriously, I really like plants. Before allergies caught up with me, I used to buy bulbs in the fall and "force" them to bloom over winter. Now I just keep non-blooming plants around. I have some philodendron water-rooted and growing out of one of my fish tanks -- it helps to clean the water.

We have lots of house plants which my wife lovingly takes care of. This is one of the perks of being married because if I wasn't any plant would surely die in my home. So, as long as I'm married there will be plants around otherwise the best I could do would be a tumbleweed!
