It never fails to amaze how close you can get to wildlife up here.
While walking home from work on Friday, I saw a truck filled with animals. The animals had collars around them with their names. I read Comet, Dancer, Blitzen and yes even Rudolph. They were reindeer. They came from a reindeer farm nearby, and later that evening they pulled a sleigh with a guy in a Santa Claus outfit in it. The reindeer had handlers around them, and to be honest, didn't look at all happy about pulling this silly human around. Still it was quite a sight.
Last summer as I was walking home from work I went past a small forest when I suddenly noticed a moose. I was not more than 25 feet from it. I stood and stared at it. Finally, I walked a few more yards and saw a moose calf. Only a few months old and already it weighs more than I do. It looked like Bambi on steroids. How I wish I had had my camera!
One more thing about reindeer. They are often turned into (don't look if you're squeamish)................................................................sausage.
I bought one from a guy with a cart that had sign on it "Don't worry. It's not Rudolph."
