this is pure ragebait and shouldn't be taken seriously.

I agree it is ragebait, but how he is approached should be subjective to one's own desire. As I understand it, Jacob is on X and goes toe to toe with several unsavory characters over there like RZ and CN types, and sometimes a comment like "shouldn't be taken seriously" can come off as "shouldn't be engaged with and altogether ignored". And if that is your choice of how to deal with RZ and others, that's great.

And if you did not intend to suggest no value can be had in engaging him, ok, that is great as well. It's just sometimes that is how comments like these come off. Thanks for the info @RamistThomist

I didn't mean for my comment to come off that way - I think anyone is free to interpret RZ how they wish (the good and the bad and everything in between). There is some value in engaging with him, but I think we can over-sensationalize him or give him undue relevance. (Personally, I spectate on X but don't post.)

RZ is not the only one who "ragebaits" and posts "hot takes" or "coal" - Gen-Z culture is generally a bit irreverent, controversial, and edgy. You can find all sorts of characters on "Christian" X, from ecumenists like RZ to TradCaths and orthobros to hardline Wolfean CN-types (which seems prevalent among confessional / "TR" young men in the PCA. A bit off topic, but I'm worried that 2025 GA is going to be a politicized mess among the different factions, esp. with regards to Overtures 3 & 4 (CN), 28 (Immigration), and 34 (Diaconate)). There is a certain angst and lack of stability within Gen-Z that drives this sort of behavior as well as a newfound appreciation for tradition, liturgy, RC/EO (unfortunately), and CN.

We (Gen-Z) would do well to learn some decorum and wisdom from our elders.

Wonder what the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) did to get rejected? The unloved of the "Seven Sisters," and a stepsister (RCA) brought in. ;)
DoC is restorationist (and not magisterial Reformed or partially linked to it like the Baptists).

True. Being "based" is a good thing, actually, and I would not consider it a sign of being unintelligent or not well-spoken.

There is something to be said about the constant "ragebaiting" that occurs on right-wing / Christian Twitter - RZ is not the only one guilty of this. I would also take anyone on social media says with a grain of salt. You can find plenty of more conservative/confessional Gen-Z men on Twitter that engage in ragebaiting, hot takes, etc. It is a part of Gen-Z culture, for better or for worse.
Ragebaiting for Gen Z is true. I'm 25 and I've seen it. Sadly, I have participated in it when I use to have Facebook and Twitter, but by God's grace, I came to a point where I was sick of it and seen my own wickedness. I deleted them and never looked back.

For those who think he is based, I'm tempted to use this thread for screenshots of his greatest hits involving Pope Francis, how cowardly Machen was, and how good evolution is.

On a more serious note, I don't think he has been around enough PCUSA types. I am in a denomination that came from the PCUSA. Most of the old guard, good people they are, come from churches that were more interested in worship teams and programs than "see how pretty our building is." I'm not making a judgment either way, only showing how out of touch he is. Test case: does the church use the Trinity hymnal? Psalmody debates aside, examine the contents of the hymns in the Trinity vs. celebration hymnal, or whatever it's called. It's the same hymn but some of the words, usually related to wrath, are softened.

All of this is new to me. I knew of him as the guy who loves beautiful churches and is trying to "re-conquer" PCUSA from within. And that's the sum of it for me. My OP was inspired because theistic evolution is a topic I care greatly about, and I wondered if he was newly drifting off the rails or if he is just re-affirming his drift on April 6, 2025.

Your idea of a history of his bad takes, evidencing he is off the rails would be welcome to me. And if anyone else just needs no more posting regarding RZ, they can just simply not open this thread anymore as far as I am concerned.

He started out as just wanting pretty buildings. He then realized as vacuous that was, since Catholics and Orthodox have prettier buildings. He then moved to only the mainlines can save Protestantism.

I would sorta like to see these, it's a bother to go through and find them, and I'm not on the social media to see them

We (Gen-Z) would do well to learn some decorum and wisdom from our elders.

Also, as one of these so-called 'Zoomers', I want to second this. We are a funny culture, given to dark humour and attention-seeking, and certainly not given to realistic long term thinking, preferring to cook up potential futures which are completely detached from reality, then responding completely inappropriately when our pet ideas are challenged

I've seen some this Redeemed Zoomer guy and he seems to say some wild things. I don't remember every exact detail, but I do vaguely remember that someone asked him if Roman Catholicism and Baptists were the only two options left for Christianity, which would he choose.

He didn't hesitate to say he would join Roman Catholicism. He says he believes that Presbyterians have more in common with Roman Catholicism than it does with Baptists.

I know we Baptists have differences with Presbyterians, but I think we have more in common with each other than with Roman Catholics. At least I think so from reading guys like John Bunyan/Charles Spurgeon/John Owen and Samuel Rutherford/Thomas Watson/RC Sproul.

Absolutely and quantifiably true. Compare WCF / 1689 with the history of papal bulls, councils like Trent and Vatican II etc. Or just WSC and BC and the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church. His position is objectively and demonstrably in error.

Why would anyone with more than half of their mind engaged, or more importantly, any spiritual sense, listen to this nonsense?

I don't know but some do. Hard to know who is a wolf or not if you do not in fact listen to what the wolf teaches - at least once, which is what this thread has become.

So why would anyone listen to what he has to say?

Acts 20

28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.
29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.
30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.

I'd never defend the fellow, but Paul's words are compelling to me. RZoomer isn't a theologian or pastor. But he does subscribe to the Westminster Confession. Thus, "What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice." Do we rejoice he isn't in more error? Are we happy Jesus Christ is not obscured in the important ways? Do we refuse to believe God is using him for any good? Let's focus on the celebratory fact, after all, it could be CatholicZoomer, but it is not, or AthiestZoomer, but it is not. We're so debbie downer, out here on the PB. Are we rejoicing? That is the question. In pretence, perhaps, for gain he posts videos. Carnal? Perhaps. But again. . ."I rejoice," nonetheless. He could be SatanicZoomer, after all.

A little charity. A little grace. Don't hold back on pointing out his errors, surely. But at the end of the day, do we praise God a Christian subscribes to the Westminster, or, as it seems here, do we mourn he isn't as pure in the doctrines as we are? There's more similarity between RZoomer and me than me and a Reformed Baptist on PuritanBoard, for instance, because the Reformed Baptist fails to baptize their children, which is a far more serious error, in my mind, that a lot of Zoomer's idiosyncrasies.

Wow. That's vile.

I wonder if he basically rejects the notion that it is the right of members of a congregation to choose their elders (which non-denominationalism also frequently denies in its entrepreneurial instances), as this condemnation of offshoots seems to imply, because I would think that's a logical conclusion when it comes to the denomination-choosing thing.

Also, for a hot take, I advocate replacing the apostate, tradition-bound thing with a non-apostate thing, even if it be poorer, smaller and lacking big influence.

@Rom this is why right here ^

@Pomopu More to the point you bring up is whether or not he is truly consistent when he claims to subscribe to the Westminster Standards? If not, then does that count as truly subscribing?

Less philosophical is the shocking claim that

I agree that my failure to baptize my children must be considered a serious error by you, no problem (and vice versa by the way), but I think you may be underestimating what you call "idiosyncrasies".

Yes, that may be true. I do not have a tally of his errors. Theistic evolution is a serious error, perhaps greater than baptism. Preference for liberal denominations is a very serious error, as well. I may have to rethink, because you and I are probably close in a lot of ways RZoomer would never be with me, because of those liberalisms.

I will just re-post my reply to him: "Compare WCF / 1689 with the history of papal bulls, councils like Trent and Vatican II etc. Or just WSC and BC and the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church. His position is objectively and demonstrably in error."

This is not to downplay our differences as so trivial as to be dismissed, not at all. But just keep in mind that he seems to not have the essential confessional and catechetical details in mind at all, rather just some kind of high view of ecclesiastical organizations (or even more details that I may not be aware of as of yet).

Yes, that makes sense. It would be a riot to have him on the Puritan Board for a "AMA," like Reddit does, and see what we could learn.

Why would anyone with more than half of their mind engaged, or more importantly, any spiritual sense, listen to this nonsense? He does not speak as one spiritual, but one that is carnal.
Because his videos are very engaging and in a real way even addictive. I actually tried to stop watching his videos once or twice prior to succeeding (which was a while ago by now). Repeat nonsense enough times and people will start paying attention.

Is there more nuance than this?
I'm inclined to think there is not. The whole design of Darwin's theory is to take the principal evidence for the Creator, i.e. the creation, and attribute it entirely to natural, blind, unintelligent processes.

And while it's well and good (in a sense) for a Christian to say "but God could have guided those processes!", the objection from the unbeliever will always remain "but he didn't have to." It is absolutely essentially that we maintain, not just that "God could have guided the process," but that God is the entire and the only sufficient cause of the universe and of the species.

I'm not prepared to grant any theory legitimacy which would obscure the absolutely physical necessity of an all-powerful all-wise Creator and Governor of the universe, any more than I'm prepared to grant legitimacy to atheistic theories of ethics, of the origin of religion, of economics, etc.

Well said! As the creed of our faith proclaims without equivocation "we believe in one God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth."

Maker not overseer. Creator, not the cosmic witness of a natural process.

Is there more nuance than this?

There is zero nuance when it comes to the position of theistic evolution. It is objectively and demonstrably false and all those who cling to it willfully are guilty of suppressing the truth in sin.

Now on an individual level, that is largely dependent on the person, what they think, why they think it, and how they see the issue as a whole and where their error lies and if or how much they are open to learn given new information.

If I met him in real life, I would not attack him on theistic evolution but ask questions and offer data and information that clearly refutes his position and then answer/ not answer based on what foolishness he responds with (if any)

Does that help?
