Jerry Bridges died today. Not sure about y'all, but I've profited from several of his books.

A father in Israel, from where I'm sitting.

He had the rare humility of a teacher who was always willing to revise his teaching, and even readily admit where he'd been wrong, as he grew and learned. Of all that I have tried to learn from him, this is probably the most valuable lesson.

It truly is rare and amazing for one to revise their views and even more amazing that they warn others not to fall for those old errors. A display of real humility and care for the truth and for others. I also remember hearing he revised his teaching but I forget what he revised. Will you please fill us in?

Coming to embrace the biblical doctrine of election is one significant instance of which I'm aware; perhaps someone else here may know of another area where his views were revised? Such a revision of view is certainly a mark of humility before God's word.

This interview is representative of how he liked to speak, in his later years, of what he had learned and how he'd grown. In summary:
1. Apply the Bible in everyday life.
2. A living union with Christ.
3. God's grace in election.
4. Preach the gospel to yourself daily, trusting Christ's righteousness.
5. Depend on the work of the Holy Spirit; He directs our Christian growth.

I bought a copy of "Trusting God, Even When Life Hurts", and gave it to a friend who was dying. I hope his words profited that person. I am very thankful for Bridges.

I've also given that book to people who were facing death. A truly excellent volume.
