Puritan Board Doctor
I just ran across the news that Hal Lindsey has died - just two days after his 95th birthday. He died in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

His most famous book, The Late, Great Planet Earth (1970) was published ten years before I became a Christian.

If memory serves, he was not a date setter per se, but he definitely took the dispensational view of the Book of Revelation and ran with it.

Unfortunately he had a very negative influence on Evangelicalism.

And then there is this:

“From 2013 to 2023, Hal and his wife JoLynne Lindsey received $18.5 million of compensation from Hal Lindsey Website Ministries. During those eleven years, the ministry spent only $1,105,360 in charitable assistance to groups and individuals.”

“In February 2024, MinistryWatch ranked Hal Lindsey Website Ministries worst in its category:

“The organization ranks 28 out of 28 in the resource allocation rating category for the Radio/TV Station sector. The main reason for this low ranking is that while the organization spends only about $3 million a year in program services, it has net assets totaling $25 million.”

Sounds like a charlatan to me. Would hate to be answering God for all that right now.

Many in the evangelical world fail to grasp how much this thinking pushed gnosticism to the forefront.

If we're about to be ripped out of here, the physical world has little significance.

I was saddened, at the graveside of a family member, to hear the comment: well the real "Kathy" isn't here. She is in heaven.

A secret knowledge can also be claimed. Rapture teaching allows people with little education to read and interpret signs in daily events. People claim an understanding that eludes everyone else.

Very few people who come to our church — except those who've googled to specifically find a Reformed church — know anything of Reformed teaching, and are mostly Dispensational.

In the earlier phase of this church (2006-2011), some folks who had been bound with legalism and false teachings, were amazed and delighted at the doctrines of grace — which spiritually revolutionized their lives, and love for God.
