I have just finished the Murray bio of Edwards. I found it to be much more satisfying than the Marsden bio. The Marsden book though excellent, was really a thorough table of contents to Edwards life In the Murray edition I felt that I had met the man. Anyone else prefer Murray over Marsden?

Marsden's bio is more of a scholarly effort to place the man in the context of his times. With Marsden you get an intellectual bio of an intelletual, written with plenty of analysis, but admiration as well. With Murray you get a personal biography. You get a symathetic portrait of a man and a preacher, with far less analysis. Two books, two goals, two contributions to an understanding of Edwards.
