KOKOMO, Ind. -- A pastor trying to demonstrate the concept of unity to his congregation broke his wrist when he accidentally drove a motorcycle off a 5-foot platform inside the church.

Jeff Harlow, the senior pastor at Crossroads Community Church, lost control of the dirt bike at the start of Sunday's second service and inadvertently drove off the stage into the vacant first row of seats. He underwent surgery on the wrist Monday.

"Jeff has already laughed a lot, so he's OK. I think his pride was bruised," his wife said.

Becky Harlow said her husband recently attended a motorcycle race in Buchanan, Mich.

"He had this idea that he would bring this bike out on stage and show people how the rider would become one with the bike," she said. "He was going to just sit on it and drive it out. He was just walking the dirt bike out on stage and somehow it got away from him. It was not intended."

No one else was injured.

Harlow also performed the demonstration with the motorcycle Saturday night and at an earlier service Sunday morning without incident.

I read this and, as little as I know about the RPW, I'm thinking this doesn't fit. :um:

I think his wife nailed it when she called his pulpit a "stage".

Maybe they were trying and just got their exegesis of Ezekiel 10:13 a little wrong:

"As for the wheels, it was cried unto them in my hearing, O wheel."

Can someone explain the link with the concept of unity?

A rider becoming one with the Bike:

1. He's a passenger on it, he simply need turn on the key and maneuver it.
2. It takes him where He needs to go (with his steering, of course).
3. It's trendy (think, Choppers, Harleys, etc.)
4. It's tough-looking.

We become one with God in the same manner the rider becomes one with the Bike.

**the following is tongue-in-cheek**

1. We're a passenger on God's ride. We simply need turn on the key and maneuver it.
2. He takes us where we need to go (with our steering, of course).
3. This ride is trendy (What Would Jesus Do, Porpoise-Drivel Lie, Wild at Heart, Your Best Life Now)
4. This ride is tough-looking, because, it's God.

That's pretty good, Josh, but you forget it was a dirt bike. No doubt he was doing an object lesson by using a face plant:

"for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return."

It'll probably be difficult for the members of Crossroads Community Church to refer to him as "Rev" Jeff without chuckling a bit from now on.

This will set back the elders' efforts at getting more people to sit towards the front for years in the future!

:p:p
Yeah, but what about that hat you're wearing? :D

:offtopic: :smug:

But since you asked... ain't it cool? It's a topper carved out of a single hunk of solid cherry wood. Costs $600 (I didn't buy it... just posed for the pic).

Now, mind your manners young man! :p

What brand of bike?

Afterall, the roar of Moses' Triumph was heard throughout the land.

If covenantal continuity allows commands to circumcize infants leading to new covenant paedo baptism in harmony with the RPW, can't the mention of Triumphs in the OT provide ample warrant for Pastor Harlow?

But, just remember: Zophar Says, "The Triumph of the Wicked Is Short" Job 20:1

Actually, this is a backlash movement against the RPW (related to FV), it's called the RRPW "Revvv Revvv Principle of Worship". Like the FV, it's caused much embarrassment, wrecked the church, and injured the ministers who used it.

The PCA's G.A. has a standing repair committee called "Team Harley".

Cheers,

Adam

Or maybe he was modeling the behavior of King Jehu?

"The driving is like that of Jehu son of Nimshi—he drives like a madman." (2 Kings 9:20)

I had to reread that article a few times, that is about the most ABSURD concept I have heard in a while. You know my Brethren, with sane people, we have a little voice that whispers "NO GOOD CAN COME FROM THIS." Now even if in the back of his mind he got this "Still small voice" or thought or whatever you wish to call it, fact is he ignored it! Let this be a lesson kids! A motorcycle needs space where you can control and respond, a church platform...."ain't" it!:banghead: WHAT WAS HE THINKING! By the Bye, the article notes he is joking about it now....news flash, the painkillers have not worn off yet.:p

Boy, PT Barnum's got nothing on this shepherd of the flock.

Though I'm afraid this is another pastor. Where's the 5' stage? It would appear that this is a new and edgy means of evangelism, being taken to heart by pastors everywhere...

Here's the Video:

It appears that this pastor came quite close to killing or seriously injuring someone. Not such a great idea....

I don't think it's the same church though. Here is the page with the video of the sermon from his church. Listen to at least the first two minutes, talk about foreshadowing of things to come.
They clipped off the last few minutes of him driving off the stage after his altar call.

I remember pastors driving motorcycles in church around here a few years ago. I thought this excitement was outdated already.
